The field of sociology has made significant inroads in expanding our basic understanding of the impact, influences and implications of climate change in the 21st century. This essay on climate change addresses the various issues and concepts put forward by environmental sociologists with regards to climate change. The inputs by various environmental sociologists and sociological researchers such as Nagel (2009), Carolan (2005), and Davis (2010) helped in understanding the strong relationship between human activities and climate change; the socio-economic impacts of resource distribution; steps to be taken to address these changes and the negative consequences of climate change on our planet.
Furthermore, the role of contemporary lifestyles in bringing about a significant change in climate has also been researched and highlighted as a part of this study. This includes the issue of carbon emissions and their contribution to increasing the global temperature. Lastly, to lend more credibility to the research findings, a summary of an extensive debate between two of the most prominent environmentalists Clive Hamilton and George Monbiot, regarding the greenhouse gas emissions and their impact on climate change has been included.
