Some are sneered at, and some are looked down upon. Some create a lot of buzz and controversy and even make it to national news, especially if they involve public figures such as celebrities, politicians, etc. One of the social phenomena that have given birth to much controversy in daily living is a mode of dressing. Unlike the former times when dressing was done according to personal desire and tribal tradition, the modern society has had new ideas as far as dressing is concerned. Often, men and women are now actively seeking to show their own sense of fashion and style.

They spend more time on the television, seeking to discover which may be the newest items in fashion so that that they can adopt them. However, there are a variation on attire and their acceptability depending on the different religions and cultures all over the world. In India, clothes are worn to serve religious and scientific purposes. They also help to to cover their nakedness of human beings. On this basis, a distinct and unique dressing code was adopted among the different Indians and this has been observed even up to the present day.

Social stratification is a concept which existed in the ancestral days, it the grouping of people or families according to their social economic status and in some instances politics. In the Western societies, the stratification has been divided into, the upper class, middle class, and lower class with each class further subdivided into onto other smaller classes. This stratification has been shown give rise to many social problems such as Homicide, obesity, infant mortality, emotional depression and teenage pregnancies.

For instance, in the Indian society the government passed a policy which gave those high in class the privilege of positively discriminating against the depressed class. This policy led to the depressed class to feel discriminated which heightened tension in the country. In the modern world, eating with bare hand has been seen by many as an uncultured and uncivilized act. People from the West use their spoons, forks, and knives to eat, while the East Asians use chopsticks in almost all their meals.

However, amazingly even in this day and age, Indians resisted evolution by eating with their hands. Their argument is that eating with bare hands is much easier, but the main concern is not the ease of eating but hygiene in general. Spitting as a social phenomenon is an act of intentionally throwing saliva and or other substances out of the mouth. Nowadays it is considered to be rude and a social taboo to spit especially in Europe. However, in other parts of the world like Africa, it is somewhat acceptable, though not in all countries or cultures.

For example, in some African cultures, it is a means of passing blessings during their rituals especially before someone’s death. Unfortunately, researchers have found it to be a means of transmitting infections. In most western cultures, burping is considered rude and uncouth. However, in the Middle East and part of Asia burping after a meal is often a compliment to the chef and a sign of satisfaction. In modern times, thin figured women have been perceived to have a beautiful body thus being beautiful that a plus size women.

Such promotion and perception has resulted to women damaging themselves which in the long run has lead to emotional and psychological problems and in extreme cases, death through starvation. For instance in Ugandan culture, a woman may be said to be beautiful if she has a full figure.
