As compared to heterosexual parents, same-sex parents are usually reluctant to engage in the physical punishment of their children. This is because of the value they place on their children. The setup is like any other family but they usually have to undergo a lot of difficulties due to prejudice and discrimination by the members of the society. Most of the people in society are totally against same-sex parenting and hence the discrimination.

The lesbian parents are able to take care of their children well as compared to the other mothers. However, they are usually less gender-stereotyped when it comes to the selection of items like toys for their children. The discrimination and prejudice from the members of the society have negative impacts on same-sex parents. In most cases, they are isolated which results in stress and poor mental health. This has a negative influence on their ability to deal with some of the family issues. Evidence from the literature suggests that same-sex parents do not make good parents.

This is because the children always lack a role model when it comes to same-sex parenting. In a gay family, the children always lack a motherly figure as compared to heterosexual figures. On the other hand, the motherly instincts and experience are lacking in a gay family and hence affecting the way the children are raised. It is also important to note that some of the aspects of parenting can only be done by a certain parent. The attachment between the children and their mothers usually starts at an early age or during activities like breastfeeding.

This is something that the gay family cannot offer and hence result in poor parenting. The children raised by the gay couple will always feel that they are lacking a motherly figure or love as compared to the other children who are raised by heterosexual parents. The situation is also similar to a lesbian family. Although the children are likely to receive the motherly love and care as they are being raised by women, they will always have difficulties as they lack a fatherly figure.
