Answer: Yes, there are numerous social problems associated with both parents working. Therefore I will argue that there are many problems associated with both parents working. However, there are solutions to these problems. This is shown by reasons such as poor grooming of children. In addition, due to lack of social connection between the parents resulting into family breakages. Body Paragraph 1 Point 1. a. Evidence: First, children suffer immensely in the process due to lack of parental grooming particularly when they perceive their parents as people with no interest in their life (Carraway 2010, p. 12). b. Second, elder children such as the elder daughter in the family are left to perform hard household chores which transform them into “young mothers” in an early age (Carraway 2010, p. 13). c. Third, the intimate relationship between the parents also fades away with time resulting into separation and divorce cases (Carraway 2010, p 14). Paragraph 2 Point 2. a. In the modern society where living on or depending on a single job has become risky due to the changing trends in economic cycles resulting into workers losing their jobs, many parents have gone further to stretch their income generating channels by taking part time jobs once they live their full time jobs in the evening. Such parents end up reaching home late at night when children and their spouses are already asleep. While all these activities are meant for the good of the family it is imperative to note that families with both parents working experience numerous social problems which affect the proper functioning of many families. In the modern society it is also evident that many parents leave their children with maidservants and nannies which make it impossible for the children to understand themselves as they grow up because maidservants and nannies have little time to teach guide children as they grow up. The purpose of this paper is to explore the issues related to the problems of both parents working and the main objective is to argue that there are numerous problems associated with both parents working and how men and women can balance work and family life in the modern society. The first social problem associated with both parents working is that children lack the parental grooming experience since the parents are fully engaged in other activities away from home. It is imperative to realize that parent-child relationship is the number one factor that contributes towards positive grooming of children (Carraway 2010, p. 12). According to Carraway children that grow in the hands of their parents develop good moral habits because their parents take time to monitor them and single out any behavioural area that seems to deviate from the expected behavioural standard. However, with both parents working and being away from their children the time to monitor the children is limited and thus children grow with queer behaviours which affect not only their future lives but also that of their parent. Often, children learn from others and are fond of copying other children’s behaviours without knowledge of whether such behaviours are acceptable or not. It is therefore the role of the parent to streamline and groom the child into acceptable behaviours which can enable the child to grow into a responsible person in the future (Carraway 2010, p. 13).Nevertheless, when both parents are working they fail to notice such unacceptable behaviours copied from other children and thus the child ends up perceiving such behaviours as acceptable thus ruining his/her future life. Additionally, it is quite saddening that the elder children in families where both parents go to work are transformed into baby keepers and household servants while still young. This is particularly the case in homes where parents have no sufficient income to hire house helps. In such families, the elder son or daughter is bestowed with immense responsibilities of taking care of the rest of the children until the parents return from work. This does not only affect the child’s physical development but it also affects the performance of the child in school because such a child does not have sufficient time to revise or study while at home. Furthermore, such a child becomes exhausted by the end of the day and this also affects the performance of the child in school. While this amounts to child exploitation it affects the future of the child and hinders the child from achieving or attaining his/her anticipated goals in life (Carraway 2010, p. 13). Perceiving him/herself as a failure in life such a person resorts into unwanted and outlawed behaviours as the only perceived way of survival. As stated there above, when both parents go to work they encounter stressing and frustrating experiences in the workplace which when brought back home, such experiences strains the relationship between the spouses. For example, one of the spouses who have had a frustrating moment in the workplace may relieve her frustrations on the other spouse or children by using abusive language or treating others harshly. If the other spouse had a rough day also in the workplace both parents view one another as the cause of the stress and this affect the cordial relationship between the parents. In extreme situations, such parents end up separating or divorcing each other and this does not only affect their performances in the workplace but it also affects the psychological development of the children (Carraway 2010, p 14). Hence, it is evident that there are numerous problems associated with both parents working. The society is intertwined by the positive relationships that develop between the members of the society. However, when both parents go to work they lack sufficient time to relate with other members of the society thus creating a relationship gap in the society (Henry 2009, p 68). This is one of the causes why many people in developed countries live as strangers even in the neighbourhood because they never meet in the social circles. Lack of societal connection results into families lacking support and help from other members of the society when a disaster strikes. In addition, when both parents work for long hours away from their children they tend to relieve their stress on their children by beating or spanking their children beyond the required limits for streamlining the child. This is the contributing factor to the increased cases of children being hospitalised due to severe punishment from the parents. Coupled with severe beating of the children are also regular physical fights between the parents at home due to immense work related pressure (Henry 2009, p 70). This has also been ranked as the second contributing risks factor to increased cases of domestic violence in the United States. In spite of the above problem associated with both parents going to work, there exist serious remedies and solutions to such problems explained above. First, parents can opt for part time jobs in order to spare enough time for their families and the rest of the societal activities. In addition, parents can opt to enrol for flexible work arrangements in their places o work where they can be assigned alternating shifts (Khan 2008, p 37). This means that when the wife is away, the husband should be with the family and when the husband is away the wife should be with the family. Such arrangements would ensure that parents have adequate time to relate with their children and the rest of the members of the society (Khan p 37). This would also deter any persons with ulterior motives meant to harm the children in the society. In conclusion, it is evident from the above arguments that when both parents go to work numerous social problems also emerge within and without their circles. Such problems arise due to the detachment of the parents from one another, from their children and from the rest of the members of the society. As seen above, such gaps created when both parents go to work results into a chain of social problems which affect the proper functioning f the society in the long run.
