impact on aviation system due to the return to the base Once while making a flight to Milan, I faced an adverse situation. It was related to emergency landing of my aircraft. In a most dense route suddenly the aircraft makes an announcement to return back to base due to some mechanical problem. In this situation landing became a matter of emergency. It needs to be on ground as soon as possible. We were half the way and due to the mechanical problem the need was to go for some emergency landing. There was a kind of forced landing that became necessary. A state of panic situation came up even if the aircraft was still in a flyable condition. The need was for some facilities to be provided to the pax in order to handle the down the panic session. The aircraft was needed to be on the ground before a major system failure happens. It is here that we were in the need of implication on our pax and our resources (Daniel Fitzgerald). There were many task-oriented strategies that were followed and maintained. These strategies involved the process of obtaining information about the stressful situation as discussed by Eysenck, M., Keane, M. This was all about the application of alternative courses of action and their probable outcome. I was very particular about every inch dealt. There was an involvement of deciding priorities and acting promptly. impact on pax In any kind of situation like this pax performance is always on main stairs. During any kind of evacuation or emergency landing like this the pax performance needs to be prompt and dynamic. Pax in general are counted to follow a kind of hesitation in the time of any emergency. There is the hurdle that comes in at elevated sill heights in situations related to aviation. E/Pax Emergency Oxygen System Some were getting tensed and were having the problems related to breathing. E/Pax emergency oxygen system via a mask has got the capacity to increases the oxygen concentration of the inhaled air and generated the balance in breathing process Emergency oxygen is was of great use for handling the breathing emergency in Pax. It brings lots of relief to the people who are breathing hard. impact on airline schedule The role as has been played by us that is the Airline’s Operations Management turns very crucial. In the process of implementing the Airline Schedule and Route Planning we need to be more than cautious. However in this case of mechanical failure we were trying to enable the Airline to achieve higher revenues in reference to the emergency. At the same time the efforts were to minimize the total costs and passengers’ inconvenience. The proceedings of receiving alarms and the process of evaluating the alarms and all kinds of decisions get related. We have evaluated the scope of the mechanical trouble that came up and the decision was taken that the aircraft must get down to the base1. The factors related to the time frame, severity and resources are all taken care of. All kinds of alternative scenarios are considered and the prompt decision was taken to go back to the base. We have studied all the scopes and have generated the option and made all the reviews in order to get the best solution. All kinds of management proceedings are followed and people were made understood about the trouble. Though there was uproar with the decision yet most of the people considered to go with the idea. To keep life at risk was better understood. impact on crew resource There was the assumption that there might be an extreme unassertiveness of the cabin crew getting positioned at the exits. This also added the state where the lack of motivation of the pax exerted a strong influence on the collected data that was produced. Areas that required more attention were related to the collection of pax exit hesitation time data at high sill height exits. The professional performances of pax on stairs were very much with and without HRs preferences. There was of course the preference for UD pax for the utilisation of stairs in emergency situations. There were things that needed to have special speculations. These are Monitoring Operations, Making Decision, and Implementing Solution. This is a category that needs to be well speculated especially in the case of emergency landing. We were very particularly concerned about it and there was enough monitoring done over the traffic program. As for the instruction the views forwarded by de Waard, D. in his “The Measurement of Drivers Mental Workload” were very effective. All kinds of detections were done and the alarm was generated in order to create the awareness of emergency landing. impact on airline staff The impact of orientation on pax stair performance was directly related to the airline staff. There was adequate amount of crew required to efficiently manage between decks evacuation. Here the participation of the airline staff was important. The need for technological aids to assist in crew situational awareness is something that the airline staff were making the arrangements for. The implementation as we tried to apply are all for the managing purpose of disruptions in our craft. The most effective thing comes in from the efficiency and there are lots to be done in this sector. We were all very active and tried or level best to imply all possible strategies for the same. impact on maintenance staff There were trials done to produce inconclusive results concerning pax exit hesitation times for higher sill heights. The maintenance team was getting all the equipments for the purpose. They were keeping a detailed measurement for the exit flow rates that was comparatively lowered and as a result there was the pax exit delay. The situation was taking more time and much longer than would be expected for a normal situation like this. The process of dealing emergency in flight needs FACABDI, that is the preparation with process of Flying the aircraft and keep a track of flight path and speed. Then is the responsibility of Action that is related to the process of fault detection and confirmation of it. There is also the need of this Check list under captain’s supervision. The next step is related to the process of Analysis, where the task of evaluation and the reason behind the problem gets detected. Under the heading of Break ups there are the checkups of the Main systems. This Main system includes engines, electrical, fuel, pneumatics, hydraulics. This check up also includes the analysis of the Boeing Operations Manual. Under proper speculation my aircraft had all these systematic analysis done. There were however added en-route / approach / landing / go-around are well scrutinised. Fuel consumption, ETOPS capability were all upgraded. There were En-route, destination, diversion airports suitability added to these preparations. PAX specificity with the participation of connecting flights, hotel accommodation, political / religious aspects were all made a part of the arrangement. CCP report that is Cabin / Pax status shows that the turmoil was there and the reduction in it was made through a demonstration. Boer, E., Hidreth, E., Goodrich, M. (1998, 14-16), was of the view that the role played by the Airport security too was very vital. They were al very much prepared to receive the passengers and were well equipped for any kind of unwanted situation. As it was a forced kind of landing, the fixed-wing aircraft glide was opted. The ground was reached by the applications as has been adopted by trading altitude for airspeed in order to maintain control of the whole aircraft. The pilot of my aircraft made an application of simulated forced landings. He this made an attempt through an engine substitution at it point of failure. This was well managed and simulated and the pilot got off the aircraft on the ground safely. To everyone’s relief the life of the pilot and all the people in the aircraft was safe. It was a safe landing and every single person was acknowledged for the effort as has been made. All sorts of human emotions were tried to minimize and there was a systematic demonstration done regarding the emergency landing of the aircraft. All kinds of strategies were followed in order to hold over the situation. Avoidance of all kinds of stressful discussions was avoided and the target was led towards a safe landing. The passengers were no doubt got terrified by this sudden decision but everything was soon under control. The perfect and comprehensive follow up of the guidelines helped us a lot and we were very much at ease. Being the first ever experience of mine I was very much tensed but as the whole crew participated with all kinds of resources I was little relieved and the victory got counted with great experience.
