Iconic Supermodel Gia Epitomised Lesbian Chic Introduction Gia Carangi happened to be one of the most reputable and admired fashion models the world has ever seen or had. Her sheer beauty, personality and confidence endeared her to many people in the world and it was not a surprise when she scaled the heights in the beauty and fashion industry to ascend to the greatest heights. However, her star and light may have shown too brightly and burnt out too quickly something that shocked not only the fashion industry but the world as a whole. In the year 1986 on November 18th, Gia Carangi died on HIV/AIDs related complications, at a tender age of twenty six years. Observers, friends and family faulted her rendezvous life on a series of childhood difficulties and problem ranging from domestic violence, claims of sexual abuse and ever conflicting parents. It is important to note and mention that at some point, her mother left them and moved to live with another man. It is mentioned that the abandonment by the mother left a scare on her life and the model then engaged in a behavior to seek the approval and attention of other women-which explains or justifies the fact that she turned to be a lesbian and a homosexual. She also become a frequent visitor to one the gay clubs of the day where the top of the celebrities partied and enjoyed their lives. It was also at the club where she became hitched to hard drugs which were also very expensive to service and she slept with men so as to service her crave for drugs. It is then supposed that it was during her frequent visits at the club 54 that she contracted the deadly virus and later on succumbed to it. Given the fact that Gia Carangi was a supermodel who lost her life at the height of her career and excellence, it is imperative to note and mention that as a researcher tit would in order to contextualize her. Thus, this research process would look into the reasons, issues and considerations that made her engage in the fast life which lead to her death later on. In principle, this research process would also inquire the exact effect of the drugs and how they contributed to the early death of the supermodel Gia Carangi. In retrospect, it becomes critical to analyze and contextualize or study the life of Gia Carangi exhaustively without any prejudice or biased leanings. Given the fact that this is a study which inquires and seeks to gauge the lifestyle of a person-Gia Carangi, it would be qualitative in nature. However, other factors such as drug addiction and HIV/AIDs have been contentious and controversial in the human society to the extent that it has hit the global outlines (Gia 7). Thus, it would be quantitative to inquire the number of people who suffered under the effect and impact of HIV/AIDs and drug addiction. In the conventional knowledge and wisdom, a research that is a cross of qualitative and quantitative aspects is called exploratory. Thus, this would be an exploratory research approach with no static hypothesis. This is to say that the theoretical perspective or framework would not have the limitations or the borderlines of a hypothesis-and the research would instead be a free flowing process to the end. In order to arrive at proper inferences, it would be critical to note and carefully select the research participants. It is needless to say and mention that Gia Carangi cannot be a respondent because she is deceased, regardless of the fact that she is the primary research subject. Intuitively, her close friends would give useful insights on her way of life, her clubbing trends, how and which drugs she used amongst other important details. Secondly, the opinion of her other would be useful especially given the fact that she took care of her when she was ill and during her last days. Therefore, her mother would be a research respondent and participant. Equally important would be response and opinion of her managers and professional colleagues who saw her grow from a young lady to have reached and ascended the realms to reach a famed position. Subsequently, psychosocial analysts, sociologists, medics and psychologists as experts would also be part and parcel of the research. This is so because they would give reason and meaning to the actions of the late supermodel Gia Carangi. For instance, they would explain why she ran to drugs and explicit sexual behavior despite the fact that she doing well in her fashion and model career. Experts would also explain why the drug addiction and HIV/AIDs could have effected a failure on her immune system which led to her death. This study is important and critical since it would give form a useful basis for future behavior relative to the issue of drug addiction and the menace of HIV/AIDs. This is to say that the study would also be reason to advise and guide the future behaviors of people in the society so as to avoid the very things such as drugs or explicit sexual behavior which may lead to the contracting of HIV/AIDs. In retrospect, it is a study whose recommendations would aim to advise and direct the young people into embracing proper, acceptable and positive behaviors. In this study, it would be critical to collect primary data and secondary data so as to exhaust all the prospective sources of information. The primary sources of data would be from the friends, the families and the professional colleagues would give direct or primary answers on the issue. This is to mention that their opinion and response would be first hand because these are people who must have interacted, talked and shared a livelihood with her. Thus, I would treat the response and opinion from the family, friends and professional colleagues of Gia Carangi as primary sources and accord them the requisite weight required of them. Similarly, the information from secondary sources would include websites, opinion from experts such as psychologist, sociologists and medical practitioners. At the currently disposition and time, there are several websites, blogs and books or stories which highlight the life of Gia Carangi and why she died the way she did. All of these are sources or information which are not of first hand origin and instead they ae opinions of other scholars and thinkers. Basically, a literature review refers to the body of research which analyzes what other thinkers and researcher did on the same issue or subject. In principle, other thinkers and researchers have mentioned and occasionally referred to Gia Carangi as the very first super model to have graced the world. They say this because Gia Carangi had the ability and impetus to balance natural beauty and abilities with poise and thus ooze of radiance whenever she graced the runaways or whenever she was doing photo shoots for the professional beauty magazines. It is critical to mention that at the height of her fame and success she acquired a seemingly fast life and she did not have the money to finance her exuberance and extravagance (Foundas, 21). This is so given the fact the club 54 that she was a frequent visitor was occasionally visited by the likes of Sylvester Stallone and Michael Jackson who were millionaires. Comparatively, Gia Carangi did not have the matching funds to service her pursuit of fast life. This is the reason as to why she easily gave in to sexual demands so as to afford the drugs and keep her frequency and membership to the exquisite club. The unstable marriage between the parents of Gia Carangi made her vulnerable and broken due to persistent fears. This is so because she was forced to live without the love and care of her mother even when she was at the tender age. Naturally, people who grow up without their parents love attention and care are skewed towards seeking the kind of love and appreciation from other people which may be misplaced (La Bella, 3). For instance, if a young girl faces rejection and persecution from her home and family by extension, it would be imperative and critical that she would try to find that elusive love and attention from other people including following boyfriends. Thus, the same circumstance may have happened to the life of Gia Carangi when she followed the life of other boyfriends so as to get their appreciation and love. Later on, it is recorded that the late Gia Carangi was skewed by liking her fashion preferences towards David Bowie who was an open bisexual and had a different inclination to varied fashion. David Bowie always had open approach and perspective to fashion where she would embrace a different fashion from that of his gender. David Bowie was a man but most of his clothing items looked as though they he was a female (Carolin 23). By extension and postulation, the fact that Gia Carangi was a fondler and liked the style and perspective of Bowie made her to have a similar perspective by encouraging her to pursue a different sexual orientation from that of her gender and sexuality. In principle, it is critical to mention that Gia Carangi found encouragement and support in the fact that other celebrities also pursued bisexual orientations and perspectives since she did not fear to be a bisexual. After some time, she tried to kick the habit of drug addiction and even enlisted in a rehabilitation and detoxification program for twenty one days. She became sober and even enlisted in another agency and modeling firm where she started to revive her career. However, one of her agent died and she relapsed back to the old habit since she had lost hope of ever making it. It is widely believed that the sadness and pain of her losing her agent kicked her back to the old habit of the addiction. The addiction later pushed and encouraged her to relapse to the drug addiction which was a direct contributor for her contracting HIV/AIDs. Given the fact that this is a cross of a quantitative and qualitative research, it would be critical to analyze the information independently and uniquely. In principle, it mentions that the research and study is exploratory in nature and approach and perspectives. Thus, the quantitative data and part would be analyzed to give facts and figures on the issue and study. The qualitative findings on their part would grouped and collapsed in the aspect of commonalities. If the research respondents give their answers and they have aptness and similarity, such responses would be coded and grouped in the same line of thought. For instance, if the experts justify that the reason as to why she engaged in high life and drug was due to the void and emptiness in her life, then such common responses would be collapsed in the same category. The findings and inferences would be presented using appropriate methods and techniques such as graphs and stages. If the quantitative methods of study would be presented in graphs to give the percentages of the study to postulate the reasons as to why for instance the number of HIV/AIDs cases and drug addiction cases are many in the recent past. It would also postulate the reasons why children raised by single parents or children who grow up without the love of their parents would easily slip into socially deviant behaviors such as prostitution and drug addiction. Conclusion The above essay has discussed and articulated the instances as to why the life of Gia Carangi was cut short due to addiction and sexual deviance which later on led to HIV/AIDs. It is important to note and mention there were some social issues in her life which may have prompted her to live the kind of fast life that she did. Work cited Carolin, Louise.
