White Collars and Drug Rehabilitation - Assignment Example

Research the frequency of white-collar crime and how it is so costly to Americans. Explain why this area of criminality has not been heavily prosecuted in the past and why current investigations are often difficult. The term white-collar crime is used for the crimes which are committed by a person who takes the illegal advantage of his occupation status or his authority. In United States of America most of these kinds of crimes are committed by the senior employees and officers of government or some organization who have authority to make decisions. Sutherland was the person who first time used this term in the United States in 1939 while addressing to the American Sociological Society. Now question raised that why white collar criminals are not put on trial in courts? From where problem and difficulties arises when someone wants to put these persons behind the fence? Answer is hidden in the argument given above that as most of the senior employees and officers committed in these crimes then who arrests them because they are in power (Poveda, 1994). This problem is same that confronts by the law implementing agencies faces in the past and present. According to Federal Bureau of Investigation these white collar crimes cost United States of America more than $300 billion per year. The crimes which are considered as white collar include corruption like evasion of taxes, bank corruptions etc. Not only the rich and powerful people conduct these crimes but also the ordinary people involve in these crimes. Frauds conducted by internet, opposing copyright laws, frauds of credit cards and other small scale crimes are conducted by the ordinary people. These are the people who got some ability and knowledge of these things and mostly they do this to solve their financial problems (Poveda, 1994). It does not affect the only one person directly but a number of people indirectly. In 1994 two famous writers Stanley D. Eitzen and Maxine Baca Zinn wrote in their book Social Problems that the time that was wasted by the employers because of useless reasons costs United States nearly $200 billion dollars per year. Now one can judge from this fact that, how difficult this is to resolve this problem? No one can judge that what is inside oneself, if someone says that he has headache then, how you prove that he/she is pretending only way is to believe that person (Poveda, 1994). This is the core problem occurs while investigations incase of white collar crimes. Greedy nature of man provides foundation to conduct crimes using its authorities and abilities illegally. The power which forces someone to commit these crimes is the complexity and technicality which provides security to the criminals from the law. It is very difficult to find out the real criminal in these crimes because of the lake of evidences as they are in street crimes, so in rare cases criminals are identified and arrested. Laws for these crimes are always there in every country. The responsible of these crimes are charged like other criminals but there is some difference of punishment for them. They are punished by fines, detection of their property, prosecution costs and dismissed by the job (Dininni, 2007). If the person helps the investigating authority and admit the crime then the penalties could be lessened. In most of the cases the people who were caught in these crimes are only the workers of some powerful persons, which are the officials of high social and economic status. Sometimes they also recognized but could not prosecute because of their relations with the senior politicians, judges and they can also afford the brilliant lawyers. Talking about its impacts on society, according to a research white collar crimes cost much more than ordinary crimes. Cost of consumer products and services increases because of these crimes which has a direct affect on the citizen of average income (Dininni, 2007). Crimes are the part of every society, some of these are less harmful and some cause more destruction. White collar crimes have become a big problem for the United States. Cause of these crimes is the greedy nature of man and its financial problems. The difficulty of detecting the main criminal and softness of laws makes it attractive for the people to conduct them. These crimes indirectly, lowering the living standard of an average citizen by increasing costs of services and consumer goods. Locate a drug rehabilitation center in New Mexico. Research what it offers its clients and any relevant information regarding strategies and success rates of those entering the center. Term “drug rehabilitation” ascribes to the series of medical and psychotherapeutic process needs to enable the patient to resist drug addiction. The centers where all these treatments perform are known as “drug rehabilitation centre”. These centers are the lifeblood for a social society, because addicts are the persons who need society’s special attention. In the area surrounded betwixt the Mexico and New Mexico there is sparsely population and little corps strength that favors the drug smugglers and drugs are smuggled from this place to the whole United States (LHC, 2009). There is an increasing trend of New Mexican people towards drugs and there is need to establish rehabilitation centre to help people to come out from this marshy curse. A rehabilitation centre named “Life Healing Center of Santa Fe” is working in the capital of the New Mexico, Santa Fe. It is licensed by the State of New Mexico under the criteria of Residential Treatment Program and has a capacity of thirty nine beds. Treatments proposed at The Life Healing Centre is singular because of many reasons, they rendering extensive treatments for drug addicts and has a past of above twelve golden years in this noble cause (LHC, 2009). There are many rehabilitation techniques that are in-use in The Life Healing center, like they put “group therapy” to practical use in various forms. Depth process group helps the patients in agitating their mental processes and investigating about their past and present. Skills groups advise people to be practical in their lives with help of Dialectical and cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Afternoon groups discuss the patient’s difficulties with them and tell them the ways that how they have to deal with the addictive disorders. Specialty groups briefs the patients about the issues like grief and loss and finds out the interaction of these issues with the addiction (LHC, 2009). Whereas spirituality groups shows right paths to the patients to investigate about the issues of their lives like the expectations of their beloveds from them. Besides these groups treatments meetings are held like community and roundtable meetings, in which patients finds out a platform to explore their-selves and where they can overtly demand assistance. They have an open interaction with the staff members in these meetings and receive a lot of healthy prescriptions from the staff members about their treatment.
