Post drinking Sexual Perceptions and Behaviors toward Another Person: Alcohol Expectancy Set and Gender Differences. Alcohol influence on sexual perceptions and behaviors towards another person is a controversial issue. But studies show that it is closely related to gender differences. Besides, there is ambiguity in alcohol’s influence in sexual matters. Studies point out that alcohol helps to improve sex but it is not quite sure that alcohol consumption leads to healthy sexual life. Men show more interest in alcohol consumption and alcohol expectancy. It changes attitude towards women and most of the male drinkers judge female drinkers through the viewpoint of sex. So, it is clear that alcohol not only influences sexual perceptions but also attitude towards the other gender. This evaluation is based on the work-‘Post drinking Sexual Perceptions and Behaviors toward Another Person: Alcohol Expectancy Set and Gender Differences’ by George, William H., et al, which tries to assess the relation of alcohol with human sexuality and other controversial issues on alcohol expectancy and sex. Summary The scientific researches on alcohol expectancy with gender confirm that alcohol influence sexual sensitivity in varied ways. The research article- ‘Post drinking Sexual Perceptions and Behaviors toward Another Person: Alcohol Expectancy Set and Gender Differences’ by George, William H., et al is based on the very same topic and it makes clear that alcohol expectancy and gender are closely related and plays an important role in sexual perceptions. The participants of the research include 100 men and 116 women. The findings are interesting because it deals with the implications for post drinking heterosexual encounters. The main findings are: 1.Men shows more interest in erotic materials than women. 2. Men are more sexually aroused than women.3. Men show more erotic material to alcohol using women than non-alcohol users. Besides, the research concludes by pointing out that there is a deep relation between sexual perception and erotica showing behavior. Discussion There is a common belief that the habit of drinking increases sexual arousal and interest. Research conducted on the relation among alcohol, sex and gender points out that both men and women expect alcohol to enhance sex. This study is based on the same topic and it reveals some real facts with the help of systematic ways. But there is no evidence to verify that the effect of alcohol in women is same to that of men. Earlier, effects of alcohol were assessed on pharmacological standards. But now, expectancy effects are also evaluated on post-drinking sexuality. Studies conducted on this topic reveal that alcohol enhances men’s sexual arousal, their interest in erotic materials and sexual aggressiveness. But this effect is rare among women. It is noteworthy that gender difference is obvious in Post drinking Sexual Perceptions and Behaviors towards others. Vignette experiments point out that men consider a drinking woman as more sexually available and willing than a non-drinker. There is a general belief that drinking actors are sexier, sharing more sexual initiative and having more sexual intent than non-drinkers. Besides, men’s interpretation of women drinkers is different and they show the predisposition to interpret women’s behavior and communication on the grounds of sexuality. William H. George et al in the journal article namely- ‘Post drinking Sexual Perceptions and Behaviors toward another Person: Alcohol Expectancy Set and Gender Differences’ makes clear that: “In sum, people generally see alcohol as enhancing sex. Men exhibit greater sexual response and interest in erotica when convinced they have been drinking, and drinking persons are perceived as more sexual than non-drinking counterparts.” (George, William H., et al 283) Generally, people consider that alcohol has an enhancing power on sex. When men are convinced that they are under the control of alcohol, they show interest on erotic materials and sexual response. Moreover, drinkers are viewed as more sexual than non-drinkers. This also is related to the general belief of the enhancing power of alcohol. But women are more cautious and vigilant about their behavior in such situations. So, it is evident that generally people consider alcohol as enhancing sex and gender is an important qualifying factor. George, William H., et al makes clear that when individuals perceive someone more sexually, there is high possibility for treating their counter parts on sexual terms. The ideas that are pointed out by the author are based on Post drinking Sexual Perceptions, Alcohol Expectancy and Gender Differences. The results prove that gender difference is a main factor in alcohol expectancy and men show more interest in sexual matters. The most interesting fact about this research is that no alcohol was used for this research but only placebo drinks. False notion on alcohol and sex But the research is limited to the sphere of alcohol expectancy on pharmacological and psychological terms. There is no solid evidence to prove that alcohol enhance sexual power. For instance, alcohol enhances arousal but there is no proof for its positive influence on sex on biological terms. Besides, the interest and arousal may not lead to success in sexual matters. Sometimes it may lead to failure in sex and permanent hatred towards sexual matters. So, the pharmacological proof may not prove its effectiveness in real life situation. The research proves that drinkers are more sexually treated than non-drinkers. This is true but dangerous view on the relation between alcohol and sex. Furthermore, the author is of the opinion that the role of alcohol in stimulating sexual responding cannot be construed on biological or psychological terms. Moreover, it is evident from the research that alcohol and alcohol expectancy increased men’s sexual aggressiveness. This is dangerous because aggressiveness leads to violence. Besides, men show the tendency to over rely on woman’s drinking or non-drinking status to judge their sexual interest and objective. So, it is clear that this false notion or judgment is based on unjustified and unwanted sexual perception. The results of the research points out that post drinking perceptions can amplify sexual misperceptions. But the overuse of alcohol for the sexual enhancement may prove false in real life situations. So, from the results of the work- Post drinking Sexual Perceptions and Behaviors toward Another Person: Alcohol Expectancy Set and Gender Differences, it is clear that alcohol’s effects on sexuality are complex, and must not be strictly limited to pharmacological expectations. Teenagers and their sexual desire Teenage is the age a rapid growth and energy which leads to unwanted enthusiasm towards sexual matters and teenagers show the tendency to experiment their knowledge in sex. Studies conducted among teenagers prove that the rate of infection of sexually transmitted disease among them is high. Besides, sexually active teenagers are significantly less happy and feel depressed. So it is evident that unwanted sexual desire and sexual activeness badly affect their emotional health and this may lead to depression. So as to escape from this depression there is high possibility for teenagers to engage in greater sexual activity. Teenage pregnancy is another problem resulted from sexual desire and sexual activeness. When one tries to understand the article through the perspective of the teenagers, it is quite sure that this article provide false notion about sexual activeness and the effect of alcohol. For instance, the common belief that alcohol enhances sex will result in a misunderstanding about the power of alcohol. Besides, there is high possibility for a teenager to use alcohol as a medicine for sexual arousal. This may lead to sexual aggressiveness and violence among teenagers. The finding that drinking people are more sexually treated may mislead the teenagers because they will connect sex with alcohol and vice versa. When they consider that alcohol is a stimulant in sexual matters, it will lead to increased use of alcohol for sexual arousal. They may not think about the complexity of the effect of alcohol but may be deluded by the false impression about its power in sexual matters. So, it is quite sure that there is high chance for teenagers to be deluded by false information about the influence of alcohol in sexual matters. Moreover, teenagers must be trained to be away from sexual matters and their energy must be used for other productive works, not for sexual experiments. Before summing up, it is important to point out that alcohol expectancy influence human perception of sex and it changes the attitude towards other gender. The discussion on the influence of alcohol on sex points out that both men and women expect alcohol to improve sex. Furthermore, gender difference is important in alcohol expectancy. But the general belief about alcohol that it helps to enhance sex is false because it is quite sure that alcohol consumption badly affects human health and is not an in important factor to lead healthy sexual life. Moreover, the findings may mislead the teenagers because they may consider alcohol as a tonic/medicine to enhance sex and may change their attitude towards others. So, it is clear that the findings of the research are with positive and negative effects. To a non-drinker, some findings are valuable because it proves that alcohol consumption leads to sexual aggressiveness and eventually, violence. But the teenagers may misunderstand the relation between Post drinking Sexual Perceptions and alcohol expectancy. Let us hope that future research in the field of human sexuality may reveal the awful effect of alcohol in Human Sexuality.
