Question Challenges faced by the United s as a result of globalization In the 21st Century, the United States has undergone remarkable changes as a result of globalization. The standards of living have become better as people come up with innovations to simplify their lives. With the development of technology, there are various challenges that the United States has faced as a result of globalization. The challenges mainly focus on the social, economic and political sectors of the country. Thus, the essay critically explains the challenges faced by the United States as a result of globalization. Ensuring the benefits extend to all countries United States always plays a major role to ensure that they promote development in the third world countries. As the rate of globalization goes high in the United States, the developing countries also look forward to get them same effects of globalization. Thus, the United States of America has to play a major role in facilitating development in the third world countries. United States created two international institutions which aim at developing all the countries in the world. The two institutions are World Trade Organization (WTO) formed in 19951. The main function of the World Trade organization was to settle all the trade disputes among the countries in the world. The second organization is the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which was formed after World War II. The events of the war destroyed most of the countries’ resources, and something had to be done to revolve their economy. The International Monetary Fund provided emergency loans to countries. After the events of World War II, the United States of America plays a major role in shaping the economy of the world. Thus, to ensure that other countries develop, they have to incorporate all the aspects of globalization. They have to advance the living standards and ensure that there is stability in the world’s economy. The policy makers have to come up with policies that promote globalization in all the countries, which is a great challenge2. Consequently, some of the third world countries cannot adapt globalization because of factors such as illiteracy and poverty. The United States has first to work on the two major challenges before introducing globalization in those countries. Thus, they need resources to ensure that they provide all the basic needs required and improve their education sector. Finance is needed to carry out all these activities, making it a great challenge. Leads to instability Globalization has resulted in a faster exchange of ideas among the countries. Criminals use the advanced technology to communicate over a long distance. United States has greatly been affected by the terrorists’ activities. The country’s security is at risk as the criminals come up with better weapons than those that the security agents have in United States. The Federal Bureau of Investigation as faced a major challenge in their effort to maintain peace in the country because the criminals are more cunning in their activities as a result of globalization. Labor rights, wages, and employment practices As a result of globalization, the number of skilled employees has greatly increased. Some of them have come up with innovations. To some extent, this is a threat to United States. They have to increase the wages of the skilled personnel if they need services from them. If they come up with their innovations, they open up their companies leading to competition and some of the state’s companies may be shut down because of the stiff competition. As a result, the economy of the country is adversely affected. Additionally, the economic theory states that, increase of trade of goods produced by unskilled labor causes a reduction in the demand for the goods. With globalization, the population needs quality goods and services. Thus, the laborers have to be skilled to provide the goods and services required. United States has to employ skilled personnel to give the quality of goods and services required by the citizens. Furthermore, there is an increase in wage inequality. United States has to lower wages of the less skilled personnel and increase the wage of qualified personnel3. The move creates a gap between the two groups resulting in a difference in the living standards. The laborers as a result of globalization always want to come up with labor rights. The labor rights affect the overall production in the country. Laborers always push for an increase in wages and less working hours through the use of social media. Question 2 Globalization a threat to U.S. supremacy and power in the world After the Cold War, the United States, strives to define their place within the security environment and the international economy as globalization emerged. There was a worldwide demand to provide more access to the goods and services on an international scale. The international institutions formed and cooperated by the United States such as NAFTA, IMF, EU and World Bank play a major role in defining the future of the world4. Thus, the United States has to assume the key leadership in the global institutions to maintain power and influence in the global arena. Globalization makes the United States acknowledge that if they will not accommodate the new rising power they will lose their position in the world. Other nations may create their global institutions with barriers and new rules. Thus, there is a need to include the rising powers in the United States controlled international framework. The growth of the economy in other countries threatens United States supremacy and transitions the world into a multipolar environment. Recently, the United States has been accused of designing global policies in favor of themselves. They want to ensure that they control the global economy. However, that is not the case, with globalization, there are other nations such as China and Japan, which are coming up5. The United States has to welcome them into the global architecture, or they will establish their own multilateral institutions affecting their supremacy. For the United States to maintain its unipolar status, they have to ensure that they assume their leadership roles within the powerful institutions. In addition, they have to recognize all the rising powers and involve them in management6. The United States has to ensure that it propels some of the main sectors of the economy, such as technology, textile, and the agriculture sector. By managing the key roles of the sectors of the economy and coming up with policies geared towards the sector they will achieve supremacy. Additionally, they have to control international institutions and ensure that they make policies in line with all the requirements of the different countries. China and India are nations that are rising fast as a result of globalization. Ideally, education is one of the main aspects that have led to its development over time. The number of China and Indian students graduating from universities has greatly increased, especially in science and engineering. On the other hand, the number of universities graduating from United States has decreased. India and China are churning out a large number of students with skills required in the global economy. Elite students in India and China are given an opportunity to hold leadership positions in the country. Ideally, if United States wants to remain supreme in all the areas of the economy, it has to ensure that the number of educated students increases. They can do this effectively by encouraging students to acquire engineering and technology based degrees. Innovations should also be embraced, coming up with innovations leads to technological advancement of the technology hence globalization7. Students from United States should be allowed to communicate with students from the rest of the world. Through that they willlearn new things through the social media and other platforms. Sharing of ideas will lead to the development of the nations as a whole. In conclusion, the challenges facing the United States as a result of globalization are numerous. However, coming up with strategies to suppress other nations will make them remain supreme. The policies which they come up should lead to the development of the nations as a whole. It is important for them to learn that education is the great equalizer. For instance, India and China have achieved a lot in the globalization sector as a result of the change in the education system.
