Drug addiction is important to admit that drug abuse is a hard and significant problem in our society. A huge number of people experience drug abuse due to different reasons and causes. It should be understood that drugs wasted people’s lives and spoil their physical and mental health. The question of prevention and lessening of drug abuse is considered to be highly important. The US government uses a number of prevention programs that fulfill their task successfully and are regarded as a basic method for lessening drug abuse (NIDA, 2014).
Still, every person in the country is in need to realize the harmfulness of drug abuse and perform everything possible the lessening this process. Prevention programs are considered to be professionally developed methods of preventing drug abuse that is used in families, schools, and communities (NIDA, 2014). The programs under consideration are helped people “shape perceptions about the risks of substance use” (NIDA, 2014). A clear understanding of the consequences of drug abuse and a detailed demonstration of its effects on people’s physical and mental health helps people to lessen their level of use of drugs.
In addition, the individual approach is also relevant and effective. It is highly important to provide support to people who use drugs and are in a state of recovery and to present a positive example to all members of society, as everyone may make a mistake and be involved in drug abuse (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2014). People are in need to listen and communicate with people who are at risk (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2014). In such a case person who intends to use, drugs may have a friend who with advice prevents this process.
All in all, national prevention programs together with an individual approach to people are presented as the principal factors for the lessening of drug abuse in society. People are in need to understand the consequences of drug usage and to have a close person for advice and sharing his/her own problems.
