The primary issues focused by the two authors include the aspect of western civilization and the manner in which the 21st century generation failed to act on certain processes such the CO2 effects on the environment and the human activities, which precipitated the climatic condition changes. The authors argue that Montreal Protocol to Control Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer was a significant model for a global framework to control emission of greenhouse emissions. This model was good; however, nations such as the USA refused to cooperate with the rest of the world citing the scientific uncertainties being too great to justify the cost of inconvenience of eradicating the greenhouse emissions.

This assertion represents the fundamental issues that were predicted. On the case of the Anthropocene period of the geological history, the authors cite the human activities as the force behind the changing physical and biological functions of the planet. On the same regard, the authors cite differences in ideology, strength of political power and supremacy of the political economy as the aspects that defined the direction of the western civilization. Finally, the authors cite different perspectives on the denial problem of the some nations such the US In analyzing the article, the authors argue that the consequences of western civilization were not only predictable but also predicted.

Some of the fundamental issues that were predicted include knowledge of the 21st century generation that CO2 and water vapour had ability to absorb heat in the planetary ambience. The generation knew what was occurring to the atmosphere because of these emissions but they did not do much to control.
