Importance of micro chipping pets Outline of speech Topic: Micro chipping of pets Specific Purpose: To convince my audience to microchip their pets in order to provide a permanent and safe kind of identification and linking of lost pets to their owners. Thesis Statement: The need is ever growing for pet identification and it is so simple and safe to install a microchip on your pet.   I.  INTRODUCTION A.  Attention material/Credibility Material: B.  Tie to the audience: C.  Thesis and Preview: II. BODY . III. CONCLUSION: Brake light/Transition: B.  Summary: C.  Tie Back to the Audience: D.  Concluding Remarks: . My dog -Jimmy likes to hunt. If he goes missing, it becomes so difficult to locate him. Running is a part of his daily life and you can always spot him chasing and hunting outside and at times might across to the other side of the forest during his adventure. When he vanishes, there is a need of special dog-tracking skills to find him. Jimmy has gone missing a couple of times. I remember one time; Jimmy managed to get his way out of the compound through an open gate left by a messenger. He only had a collar on and I went about looking for him throughout the whole neighbourhood and beyond to no avail. I searched for 3 days after which I decided to report the case to the nearest animal shelter, just in case they might have come across him. Lucky enough, Jimmy was there and when he saw me approaching, he barked enormously swaying his tail up and down in much joy. Jimmy had been rescued by a Good Samaritan just in time before he fell into a deep hole in the nearby forest. The Samaritan later brought him to the animal shelter. It got to my attention that the shelter’s personnel had tried to locate me with no success since the collar on Jimmy had no identification number. This was the time that it downed on me that micro chipping jimmy was really important. After learning the importance of a chip, I allowed its installation and since then it has served me well because Jimmy has gone missing 3 more times and through the chip he has always been traced back to me. Your window of chance to find a pet is fairly narrow, but a microchip is a must have if you want to secure your pet for the long term and ensure he comes back even when he has gone missing. Am sure most of us have a pet, and would like to ease the burden of searching for a lost or displaced pet. Today I am emphasizing on the need for everyone in our area to microchip their pet for easy identification and linkage to the legitimate own and overuse of limited resources on animal shelters Millions of pets get displaced or lost annually. To be precise 1 in 3 of the pets go missing somewhere along the course of their lives. When they are found straying within the neighborhood, they end up in the animal shelters. As a result of large numbers of unidentified pets that find their way into these animal protection centres, overcrowding becomes evident and strain on the limited resources on the centre ensues. This problems strengthens the need to ensure ease in identification of pets, by implanting microchips on your pets to enhance tracking of the pets and connection with the legitimate owner. Installation of a microchip is simple. It is preloaded from a sterile applicator and injected under the skin between the shoulder blades. It takes a few seconds and is similar to administering a vaccine such as rabies vaccine. Pet microchips use radio frequency implants(RFID) for identification. This provides your pets with permanent ID.RFID Technology do not need a power source as in the case of other tracking devices such as GPS. For identification purposes, a scanner is passed over the microchip on the pet. An electromagnetic field is created by the scanner that provides enough illumination to transmit the ID number of the particular microchip. Hence, this strategy is cheap since there is no battery to charge or replace and consequently durable for a pets lifetime. However, it is subtle to check whether the microchip is still in good working condition through scanning. Micro chipping does not hurt pets since the procedure is simple. Pets experience a very minimal pain during the implantation of the chip under the skin. There are also no adverse reactions experienced by the pet since the chip is biocompatible owing to the glass coating of the chip capsule coated with paryene C. This prevents microchip migration and tissue irritation and provides a permanent, cheap and safe kind of identification to your pet. Another important aspect of a chip is that a single microchip costs approximately 45 dollars, and is installed once in a pet’s lifetime, hence it’s worth the cost. A recent study in US shows that less than 2 percent of cats lacking microchips were returned to their owners. However, micro chipped cats have a 40% rate of returning to their homes. So we can see the need for identifying our pets with microchips. This is evidence enough that all pets should be micro chipped instead of a collar. The first step to ensure protection of your pet is to install a microchip on him or her. After installing the chip you need to activate by registering it with the pet recovery database in the area. If the pet finds its way into an animal shelter or vet clinic, he or she can be traced back to you. As long as the chip is activated it’s easy to identify the pets’ owner and return it to him or her. It’s evident that, micro chipping your pet is an important decision to make and it’s the greatest favor you can ever do to any animal shelter or vet clinic worldwide. I’ve told you about the need for microchips, their advantages in terms of safety, durability and simplicity as well as their importance to your pet. I’ve also discussed how you can track your pet incase he or she goes missing if they have a chip. Microchips are applicable to all types of pets and as evident, their advantages outweigh any disadvantages. What if one day your dog, the primary security in your compound disappears? For the days he will be missing, thugs may bang at your gate, and if they notice absence of the dog, they are likely to break into your house. This will for sure be a disaster all because of the difficulty of tracing your dog. All these struggles can be taken away by making one simple decision. Just make a choice to microchip your pet. And this is my parting shot, knowledge not experimented is useless; your life is your responsibility. Make your decisions wisely and remember an activated chip will make it easier to reconcile you to your pet. Thank you for listening.
