Findings show a positive association between living in a populated area and the risk of dissolution of marriage. In the quantitative methodology, regression analysis has been used to study the impact of socio-economic development, sex ratio, female labor participation rate and religion dominance on the divorce rate. The findings reveal that except religion all other variables are significantly correlated with the crude divorce rate. Secondly, socio-economic development and female labor force participation rate show a U-shape relationship with a divorce. This study is very useful because data from 66 countries were collected to investigate the research question.

This research study aims to examine the reasons for the increasing the divorce rate in Japan over the last 40 years. The time series analysis model for testing whether Coase Theorem appliers to Japanese divorce law or not has been used to analyze the annual data for the period 1964-2006. By using court decisions on divorce disputes an index has been constructed through which the probability of divorce rate has been calculated. The major finding of this research study shows that increasing proportions of women who are regular employees are more like to divorce and the divorce rate is counter-cyclical.

White collected data sets on macrostructure, life course, demographics and family process, and trend method along with theoretical implications, he found a significant impact of demographics and life course factors on the increasing divorce rate. This research study is very useful to understand the areas that should be considered as the major determinants of divorce and empirical methodology has provided many reliable findings, however, the major limitation of this research study is the relative negligence of family processes as compared to other determinants.

In this research study, Anderson has examined the relationship between financial problems and divorce rates in the United States. A self-replicating predictive model based on selected financial variables that could discriminate the divorced from non-divorced has been developed. The model has been developed from the data collected from a sample of married men and women for a period of 12 years. The study found a very less statistically significant relationship between financial problems and divorce and it has found that financial problems only explain 5 percent of the variability in divorce.

The major limitation of this study is that few financial questions were asked however, the study could be specifically designed to study financial problems by using multiple scalable financial items.
