 Summary The article d ‘The wise beyond their peers’ by Stephen Schwartz published on 15th of October in the year of 2008, elucidate the emotional appeal to raise the sub-conscious mind to the imagery exploration of the truth. The conflict between higher education as the career revitalizer and the higher education as the academic satisfier is presented in a controversial manner by Harlan Cleveland. The abstract concept of higher education as the major contributor of wealth to the economy of the country by Julia Gillard is quite expressive in view.

“Dynamos of growth” and “huge generators of wealth creation” fosters the emotive appeal (Schwartz, 2008, p 1).This deductive logo was criticized by Geoffrey and Colin as futile approach towards the higher education with logical argument of lost opportunity for the education to explore their goal. However, the argument put forth by Nelson does not portray the evidence and the figure of speech used is vague. The pathos and ethos such as “not a courtesan, for pleasure” are constantly engaged in the article to create the distinct persuasion strategy in context of interlinking hypothesis between the research and teaching.

The loaded words used by Mill evoke the positive and negative feelings. It can be said that the purpose of the writer has been to provide the emotional interaction between the writer and the audience by making extensive usage of the thesis, logos, pathos, ethos, inversion and controversy (Cockcroft & Cockcroft, 2005, p 72).The contradicting attitude of the different scholars has clearly produced the graphics and pictures of current debate over the higher education scenario. The writer negates the claim of the Prime Minister’s emphasis on the vocational education by conceptualizing the changing advance in the discipline.

The writer in his effort to create an effective persuasion strategy relates his personal experience as the dean of the medicine university (Cockcroft & Cockcroft, 2005, p 73).The author uses the narrative communication style to project his underlying belief in the manner that could easily be comprehended by the target audience. The writer has mentioned in the article that the “medical school teach skills, but many of these turn out to be obsolete a few years after graduation”. The author is perhaps firm in his opinion and has tried to exemplify his views through Franklin Roosevelt, the president of US whose appointed commission failed to explain the development in the field of radars, lasers and other technical aspects.

The writer enforces rational appeal to the audience with the further revelation in the importance of research in the education system. The usage of inductive logic becomes prominent in this context. The author addresses the medical students but through his articles attempt to be heard on the wider scale of the audience. Although the persuasion is deliberate but is quite convincing in nature. The author has resorted to indirect approach to legitimize his arguments in the eyes of the audience. He wants the audience to oppose the education that does not deliver the true essence of knowledge.

In fact, the writer tries to persuade the audience by the appropriate usage of justification, logic and emotional appeal.
