My Own Behaviour in a Team SettingTeam Settings As a participant and member of a team I was able to learn a lot about my own behaviour in a team setting and have observed a number of ways that this experience is going to benefit me as a prospective social worker. One of the most important lessons for me in this regard was learning to cooperate and coordinate efforts toward a common goal. I am quite certain that as a social worker I will have to work with and in groups either out on the field and in the office.

In this regard my experience in this particular team setting will follow me into my chosen career. I also learned that I possess a number of transferrable skills such as the ability to put my personal feelings aside whenever there was conflict in the team. In these circumstances I was able to brush my personal feelings aside and to focus on the assigned task. I also demonstrated self-discipline in that I was able to manage my time and resources in a productive and effective manner. I also discovered that I had other transferrable skills such as effective communication skills.

I found that I was always able to listen to others and to respond in ways that were relevant and commanded the attention of other members of the team. I also found that I had another very important transferrable skill and that was the power of persuasion. I found that with commitment and effort I was able to persuade other members of the group to take a position that was akin to my own. This particular skill will be important to my chosen career when I am advising and helping those who rely on my advice and skills.

As I learned from my social networking exercises, I am sure that these skills are the kinds of soft skills that employers will be looking for. I also learned that I can be a bit over anxious and too eager to achieve my end goals. In this regard, the team setting taught me that every task has a purpose and connects to the end goal. Only after several steps are taken can we finally see the results. In this regard I have to learn to be more patient and pace my time, always aware that I cannot get to the end without starting from the beginning.

I will practice this by taking on a number of projects such as reading a book and doing jigsaw puzzles.Course Reflections When I began the course I did so with an open mind, merely hoping that I would come out more prepared to take steps toward my career goal and expecting to at least be in a better position for taking those steps that I was before taking the course. As it turns I my hopes were fulfilled. I achieve much more than the minimal skills. I feel far more confident and prepared to pursue my career goals than I had even hoped for.

I now know how to obtain job interviews and how to conduct myself during the interview. As a result of the knowledge gained from this course I am confident and know that my confidence will come across in my pursuit of job placement. I think I did well in the course because of the increased knowledge and confidence that I am leaving the course with. If I could do the course all over again however, I would pay closer attention to the practical exercises and participate with more enthusiasm from start to finish.

In the beginning I was a bit apprehensive and this held me back. However, it wasn’t long before I was fully engaged and regret not have the presence of mind to become fully engaged from the onset. I learned three very important lessons during my time in the course that will help me in my future career goals. The first of these lessons was the networking exercises. It provided me with a lot of preparatory skills. I now know how to market myself as a suitable candidate in the social workers industry.

It also taught me where to go and how to get the information that I need to get my start in social work and what I can expect once I get my foot in the door. The second important lesson I learned from the course is the importance of team work. As a member of team I learned how to depend on others and how to trust others and to get members of the group to trust me and depend on me. These skills will be particularly important to me as social worker as I will need to obtain the confidence and trust of those that I help and those that I work with.

Finally, I learned to listen and observe. This was particularly important for learning and computing information necessary for acquiring the necessary knowledge for specific goals. These skills will be entirely important to me as a social worker, where I will be frequently called upon to listen, observe and evaluate the information gathered from listening and observing.
