Interim Statement of: Declaration This evidential statement, which consists of 8 pages and each is signed by me, is true to the best of my scientific knowledge and I declare that, if this statement is submitted as evidence, I shall be responsible to prosecution if it contains any false or any information that I do not believe to be true; Qualification and experience (Please provide qualification and experience ) Laboratory reference The laboratory reference for this examination is : UOL Laboratory Reference LFS 0011. Items received From records made available to me, I understand that on the , the following items were received by the laboratory from Grantham Police Station: JPG/1: Black Woollen jumper AB/1: Glass sample taken from the window Information received From information extended to me by Grantham Police Station, I understand it is alleged that at 2315hrs on 19th November 2014, a man believed to be Philip Jackson was involved in the unrest in the Queen’s Head Public House in Grantham High Street in which a number of shop windows were smashed. Some witnesses indicate that many individuals were involved in smashing the glass in the door of Threshers before entering into the private premises. Later on, the CCTV showed a man was coming out from the premises carrying bottles. Later on, the Police arrested Philip Jackson, a suspect, and his jumper was taken and sent in a sealed package to the laboratory. Philip Jackson’s clothing and the piece of collected evidence were sent to laboratory investigation at 0900hrs on 20th November 2014. Additionally, a sample of glass, marked AB/1, was collected from the broken glass of the Threshers’ door. The alleged suspect, Philip Jackson, is not denying the evidence supported by the glass fragments instead he insists that he was standing nearby the door of Threshers when the window was being broken by others suspects involved in the disturbance. This report is based on my scientific approach applied to the examination of items provided in the reported case. And my interpretations and subsequent concrete findings along with conclusions are purely based on the case information provided to me. Thereby, accuracy of this report considerably relies on the extended information. If the extended case information is not correct or insufficient and half information is provided or any subsequent case related important information becomes public and is made available particularly after the dispatch of this report, then my interpretations and attached findings will become invalid and the report will be reappraised. Consequently, the new information will also affect the validity of conclusions determined based on the prior or initial information. As a result, any reappraisal would be more reasonable and useful if carried out before the commencement of a trail against the suspect. Purpose of the examination The purpose of this examination was to ascertain and establish whether there were any scientific evidence and supporting findings to highlight that Philip Jackson was involved in the act of unrest through establishing that whether the recovered glass fragments could have come from the Threshers’ broken glass (AB/1). Part A A1 Laboratory examination outcome The block woollen jumper has undergone the laboratory examinations. The report highlights that the laboratory received the JPG/1 item in a packaged brown sealed paper bag which was duly signed and was in a good condition when received by the laboratory. The jumper was recovered from Philip Jackson on 20th November 2014. After obtaining the sealed bag, the examination process commenced and the following findings revealed that a total of six glass fragments were recovered from the jumper. Two glass fragments were recovered from the upper left front and one glass fragment was found from the inside of the left cuff, two glass fragments from the jumper’s upper left sleeve and one from the upper right front. The further examination of the recovered glass fragments identified their colour, refractive index and their size. The laboratory report also highlighted that the reference glass samples obtained from the smashed window of Threshers and ascertained the refractive index and the colour as well. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that this piece of evidence evidently supports that the glass fragments recovered from the jumper were part of the shop window of Threshers. As a result, the evidence is also supported by the current standing of Philip Jackson who is not refuting the presence of glass fragments instead he insists that he was standing close-by the shop during the time of burglary when two males smashed the shop window and entered into Threshers. As a result, this situation requires a closer analysis of both evidence and statement of the suspect. A2 Analysis of glass fragments Two propositions can be developed to analyse the involvement of the suspect in the burglary. 1- Philip Jackson broke the shop window of Threshers. 2- Philip Jackson was involved in the burglary but did not break the shop window. t-Test: Paired Two Sample for Means   Variable 1 Variable 2 Mean 1.517973333 1.518273333 Variance 1.56171E-06 3.09427E-07 Observations 6 6 Pearson Correlation -0.046167486 Hypothesized Mean Difference 0 Df 5 t Stat -0.528226868 P(T Read More
