One.Life: Jesus Calls, We Follow One.Life: Jesus Calls, We Follow Chapter 12 Jesus too believed in hell. Although He never talked much about, it can be seen in many of His teachings for example the Parable of the Rich and Lazarus. Also, He warned people not to sin because it would take them to hell, a place full of agonies in which people gnash teeth and weep. 2. Those who have problems with the hell are skeptical, critical and afraid. However, McKnight urged them to accept hell as a reality. It really exists.3. The phrase New Heaven and New Earth refers to the saved and new environment which will come into existence after the Judgment Day when the righteous will be rewarded with an eternal life.
Chapter 131. Despite believing in the God of love, many people find it difficult to know that He loves them because of the challenges they face in life as a result of the temptations and sufferings. These, at times, make them assume that God does not love because if He does, they would not suffer.2. In my opinion, the description of the four gods is useful. It helps in knowing the real qualities of these gods, thus knowing about the real and good one to revere. 3. To me, affirming that God is love implies that He is a loving, caring and providing God.
Thus, as His creatures, we need to be loving both to our fellow humans and to Him.Chapter 141. Repentance is accepting one’s sins and asking for forgiveness from God. It liberates one from the yoke of sins and prepares one for a righteous life with a reward of eternal life.2. In his explanation, McKnight says that a Christian should be responsible for their actions and be ready to account for them.3. Dietrich Bonhoeffer is role model. He features in this chapter because he made efforts which should emulated by other committed Christians.
Final Words1. To be a follower of Jesus, McKnight suggests that one needs to:a) Instantly talk to Godb) Constantly listen to Godc) Locally commit the work of kingdomd) Keep in front the kingdom of Jesus at every timee) Do not fear to tell other people about Jesus’ kingdom vision.2. Critic/recommendationI would like to recommend this book to all Christians. It has a lot of important lessons to impart on them concerning devotion into Christian faith. It can teach about what it means to be a committed Christian who is ready to devote their One.
Life to the kingdom of God. That is what following Jesus entails. Its strength is that it explores the topic of Christian faith and uses well-researched information to illustrate his points and put them in the right context. However, I would like to fault this book for being too strict in his opinions. He regards this book as a manifesto to Christianity which does not deserve to be challenged, but needs to be followed as it is. This is the weakness of this book.
