Beliefs in Hinduism Hinduism believes in sacred writings. The theology of Vedas is one of the beliefs in Hinduism. Vedas is believed to be the oldest scriptural book in the world. Hindus believe that the writings contained in Vedas are God’s speech and that they laid down the foundation of the sub-religion of Hinduism called Sanatana Dharma. According to Hindus, this sub-religion is everlasting and has neither a beginning nor an ending. The Shrutis are the other sacred writings in Hinduism an example of which are the Upanishads that contain philosophical discourses between students and their spiritual leaders (gurus).

The Hindus believe in one supreme power. The supreme power is called Brahman and it inspires life. Hindu deity is not limited to Brahman only. Many gods and goddesses exist in Hinduism and are responsible for different aspects of Brahman. An important element with Hindu deity is that there is a trinity. Brahman, Vishnu, and Shiva are godheads that make up the trinity. Dvaita provides that the Supreme Being have a nature of soul and matter. Samsara is the Hinduism belief in the continuous cycle of life.

Hindus believe that life repeats itself in a cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. According to this belief, the soul (atman) goes through many lives across different species. The ultimate end of this continuous life cycle is moksha, a state of freedom and salvation united with God. Finally, in Hinduism, an individual’s destiny depends on their karma, the law of causality that stipulates that actions draw proportional results.
