MODULE Religion and theology Answer Basically we are Christians. We are the followers of Christological theology from eastern and western orthodox churches. Our religion and beliefs are highly technical and are in accordance to the nature of Holy Christ. The Coptic Egyptians are present worldwide. Although our foundational roots are based in Egypt but people who share common believes like us can be found all across the globe. In short we are the followers of Coptic Christianity which are further divided into orthodox Copts and catholic Copts. Answer 2 We, Copts, believe in precise theology. Our life style is perfectly in accordance with the teaching o Holy Christ. We go to our churches regularly for prayers. Our way of dressing, eating styles, way of performing religous rituals and every other thing reflects our religion. It is very ironic because in past our descendants were under the rule of Roman Empire and they had faced many persecution and death penalties to convert their religion but now the things are changed. We can practice our religion easily. Answer 3 Obviously. My descendants had faced persecution and deaths just because they refused to follow the roman emperors and followed the paths of Jesus. Our religion brings no harm to the humanity and spread the message of love and peace so why shouldn’t I raise my children according to the holy teachings of Christ. And beside this our children are very well aware from the history of their forefathers, so they know what is good and what is bad. Moreover I’m extremely satisfied with my religion and its teachings so I’m indeed looking forward to raise my children under the light of my religion. Answer 4 No. I was not a born Coptic. My forefathers used to follow the roman emperors as we were under the rule of Roman Empire in the beginning. But when we converted to Christians it was difficult in the beginning to face the hardships but we knew it was the right path so we followed are believes wholeheartedly. It doesn’t matter what was your past religion and believes unless you are fully satisfied with your current religious status. Answer 5 Converting into a Coptic Christian is not a difficult thing. You just have to know the teachings and believes of Coptic, what their faiths truly are and what theology they follow and why. If you are satisfied with that you can go to any Coptic church either they are catholic and orthodox or after the rituals you can convert into a Copt. Answer 6 Religion is a way of life. I’ve learned about my religion from my forefathers, from our surroundings and form our social lives. Moreover from the path of Holy Christ followed by the guiding force of Bible. My parents and forefathers had told us everything about our past and even the minute details of our religion and history so we are very well aware of our religion. Moreover if there are some problems we look into Holy Bible for the answer. So these all things together help us a lot to have a better understanding of our religion. Answer 7 Well, I’m a Coptic Egyptian so my church is the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria. It is one of the largest Christian church in Egypt and Middle East. About 10% of the Egyptians belong to the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria. From millenniums this church is the source of guidance for the Christians of Middle East. It is headed by the pope of Alexandria including the bishops who go through the other matters. Answer 8 I think the important thing is “what we do in church”. There are certain things which we do before going to church like getting prepare, having shower, wearing neat clothes, It is just to show our respect for the church. After that we follow conventional church rituals like reading the holy Bible, glowing the lights and candles and many other things. Answer 9 Basically singers are there to sing Holy verses or religious sermons. . We use candles in our prayers, while reading a bible and in front of icons of the saints As far as candles are concerned, lights in the church represents the angels in the heaven or saints or to reflect the presence of god. And lamps which are lighted by oil have a spiritual meaning. In short lights and lamps represent watchfulness, spirits and sanity in a certain place. Answer 10 Basically the Coptic Egyptians believe in the resurrection and miracles of Christ. They follow His lifestyle to live their lives. So for us the Holy Spirit actually means the spirit of Jesus Christ. His holy teachings and sayings and the path which we have to follow. Gods glory will be over all creation” is actually a part of a prayer. It refers to the beauty of his spirit. It means that may His characteristics are guiding source for all the living beings because it will bring glory and happiness to them. Answer 11 Yes, we all have brotherly love for our fellow believers. We are not only restricted to love but we also help our brothers in every difficult they face and are there for them through every thick and thin. We have utter respect for our women and show great affection and love towards are children. This love is not only restricted to our fellow believers, in fact our love is for all mankind. Our religion promotes love and peace and is strictly against violence.
