A Good Impression of True Christianity - Article Example

On page 109 of Core Christianity, Elmer Towns suggests that in order for the church to give a good impression of true Christianity, it should expressmore love to the world and to one another. In order to achieve this, the church must repent of the evil and confusion it has caused on others, be renewed or to recommit to the Biblical practices and doctrine, and be revived by God's outpouring of His Holy Spirit on His people. Three practical steps Christians can take to help the church to reflect Christ better within their community/culture are: to spend more quality time in prayer and Bible Study, to practice what they preach, and to avoid quarreling and backbiting among the members of the church.

The aforementioned steps will help to change the perception of the church within society because: First, the more time Christians spend on their knees in prayer and meditation, the more they are drawn to God and reflect His glory. They become aware of their sins and seek to obey God's commands and follow God's perfect will in their lives. Second, after spending time in regular prayer and meditation, Christians will eventually put to practice what they learn from God's Word along with the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

They will be "doers" of the Word and not "hearers" only for as the Bible says: "Faith comes by hearing and hearing of the Word of God." Christians begin to practice what they preach by putting to action what they learn in their daily devotion and Bible Study. Finally, when more time is spent on prayer and meditation, people begin to spend less time in finding faults in others and begin to love each other as real brothers and sisters in the Lord. In doing so, they refrain from backbiting that usually results to quarreling.

The church will then become a "home" for the weary and brokenhearted. It will become a safe refuge from life's trials and difficulties. If Christians follow these suggestions individually and as a congregation of born-again believers in Christ, the community will respect it and even be drawn to be part of it. What they world needs is a dynamic loving church that nurtures and understands not one that judges and bites.
