THE Benefits OF Hypnotheraphy TO Clients of Sexual Assault, Rape, and/or Incest Introduction and Problem Background (Problem Statement) Based on the learning and experiences in the field, a qualitative inquiry on how hypnotherapy benefits clients of sexual assault, rape, and or incest will be conducted. This study will illustrate a fairly straightforward summation of the said research question, issue, or "problem" in which the author has a genuine interest. The inquiry will be conducted through a thorough library research, interviews, survey and gathering of data from all available sources and references. This topic in hypnotheraphy is interesting. This general area has value because it will assess the extent of benefits of hypnotheraphy’s to clients of sexual assault, rape and/or incest. Two previous studies relevant to the research interests will be analyzed. One of them will be a qualitative study. This is an article that might serve as a model for this research. Another article that will be considered will investigates the problem similar to the one discussed in this paper. These are the studies of Hardley, Josie and Staudacher, Carol, 1989, Hypnosis for Change, second edition, Illinois: New Harbinger Publication and Hariman, Jusuf’s “How to Use the Power of Self-Hypnosis”, 2006, U.K.: Thorsons. General definition of hypnotheraphy is that it is a state of heightened awareness and focused concentration that can be used to manipulate the perception of pain, to access repressed material and to re-program behavior. People have some misconception about hypnotherapy that the therapist will make the patient loose consciousness and carry out suggestion contrary to his moral code, principles or religion. But this is not true there will be no loss of consciousness or any bad effects and the patient will also never tell his innermost secrets. Instead hypnotherapy helps to make changes in life making it better and happier, improve and develop powerful memory and concentration power, to develop good health-habits, to reduce and achieve normal weight control, to stop smoking or drug addictions and many more elements of life can be improve with Hypnotherapy. Currently, hypnotism is no longer considered as black-magic or witch-craft, instead Hypnotherapy is gaining an increasing recognition worldwide due to its effectiveness in dealing with the problems and certified Hypnotherapist are available for consultation. Yoga is also a manifestation of self-hypnosis. (Hypnotheraphy, 2006). Purpose of the Study (Purpose Statement) The author hoped to accomplish a thorough evaluation of the effects of hypnotheraphy by conducting qualitative research on this topic. It is aimed that the results of this inquiry will change the thinking about an issue or even how an organization goes about its work. The purpose of the study is to determine the efficiency of hypnotheraphy. Based on literature, some uses of hypnotheraphy include: reducing or controlling pain, reducing insomnia, control of some organic functions (blood flow and pressure), some regression and increased abilities in concentration, learning, memory and creativity (What is Hypnotheraphy?, 2006). Research Questions The questions that will guide the development of this project will be clearly stated. Questions that this study will raise will try to answer a number of questions. The central question is “What are the benefits that can be derived from using hypnotheraphy by clients of sexual assault, rape and/or incest?” The sub-questions are as follows: What is hypnotheraphy? How is hypnotheraphy used in the treatment of trauma that arises as a result of sexual assault, rape and/or incest? These questions are organized according to: a. The Central Question and b. Sub-questions. Proposed Methodology Research Design: a. Type of Tradition This will include Biography, Phenomenology, Grounded Theory, Ethnography and Case Study. Using the language of encoding & foreshadowing, it will be described why the author felt that this tradition was the optimum choice. Another question that will be addressed is the reasons why the others were not chosen. b. “Attitude” or “Approach” This portion will mention if there is a specific "attitude" or "approach" within that tradition that will be used in this study. Questions for interviews and categories for observations will be included. A brief description of the research settings where will the research actually be conducted will also be included. Hypnotheraphy will consider important theories. Special attention will be given to hypnotherapgy as a aprocess of self healing and self improvement. The client defines the problem having pathological manifestations and seeks assistance from one or more appropiate selves hidden in the unconscious. Through this process of self explotation the client finds precise, accurate and meaningful answer, directions, and solutions. These are followed by strong motivation for their implementation leading to concommitant cognitive, emotional, and behavioral changes underlying therapeutic outcomes. The technique has not been tested on psychotics and because of their cognitive and perceptual distortions may not be appropiate for them. But it has been found very effective in treating neurotic patients and those with personality disorders. The foundation of this therapeutic approach can be found in cognitive psychology, and mind-body therabies, notably hypnotheraphy. However, most of its formulations are new making it a uniquely distinct treatment modality. The workshop will provide procedural details of the technique and describe the most recent advances, modifications, and refinements made in it by the presenter. Data Processing and Analysis Plans This study will include a brief discussion on the considerations on how the qualitative data will be analyzed. During interviews, descriptive summaries will be included and relied on in order to have a good picture of hypnotheraphy as it relates to treatment of trauma as a result of sexual assault, rape, and/or incest. The observations will be tabulated, summarized and analyzed. Discussion will include how the conduct of this project on hypnotheraphy could be done so as to enhance its value to understanding the research problem and any implications for action, e.g., changes. This study will give a brief discussion of how the results of the research will be used. That is, potential applications of the findings will be explained.
