ACTION PLAN PLAY THERAPY WITH AUTISM CHILDREN Insert Insert Introduction Play therapy is building a relationship, which is a development of the child together with the therapist. The relationship is crucial in the therapeutic process because a child will talk freely if they feel respected and accepted. Play therapy often used with students of age 16-21 years of age in order to encourage the expression of their thoughts and feelings. Young children’s stories often wander from one-point point to another in a logical manner. Its hard for a therapist to go directly to an area where there is a problem. Since children are hard to understand and solve the problem that so it much easier to do so using the plays. Children are direct to know their feelings and are given a chance to express their feelings. In my play therapy, I use emotionally related games, music and art of work, close circle communication approach, child-centered therapy, sensory-based therapy, and different social games. Week One The First week gathered information from teachers and parents about the type of therapies they have been using and about each student. This helped me determine a new type of play therapy to use. After got the information I prepared the form of play therapy to use. I introduced myself to the students and started the session. First I used the emotionally related game; Stress Bingo, which helped recognize the emotions since they have a problem with accepting it and also teach them to have empathy Hence having moderate violence. I divide them into two groups where one stood in a line the other becomes the audience. Then the leaders call out emotion for the other one to express. I also used emotional bingo in whereby the game as 32 Stress Bingo. I gave each student one play card then you call out words randomly each student should find it and mark it. The first students to clear five words in any direction won. I observed the students through this session and took notes of whatever behavior I find. For instance, if had social communication with each other and if they started to have emotional expressions. Week Two The second week I used music and art of work, children with autism are visual oriented a good idea hence to involve them in art therapies and Anger Bingo. This will help them since they struggle with communication, and traditional psychotherapy will not help them. Art helps children to show thoughts and feelings in a creative way through nonverbal way. I provided them materials for drawing and told the students to draw a picture of how they spend their day. Singing and dancing help children have control of their voice, repeating this it helps children with autism learn to anticipate words and concepts. This can help them easily participate in music –based classroom activities. I played soft, soothing musing as children are working in class and noted the reaction using the Anger Bingo. I also played a repetitive chorus that makes learning fun and involve the students in dancing. I observed and recorded how the students react to this type of play therapy. Week Three The third week I used sensory-based therapy is a type designed to help people with visual difficulties. Autism children struggle with receiving and processing the information and the self-esteem. First I identified the student with this disorder then I helped them fight the problem. I first determined how the sensory affect the physical, social and human development. I allowed the children to explore their environment, learn and develop their senses. I let the jump from a chair to the floor, from a bed so that they can feel the difference. I also let them perform the Self-Esteem Bingo. I also used self-centered child therapy this week this treatment decrease behavioral and emotional difficulties that interfere with child’s normal functioning and improves communication and understanding between children and parents. I made sure that the children have a friendly relationship with me, and I accepted them the way they are in developing through Self-Esteem Bingo. I also had a permissive relationship with them so that they could be free to express their feelings. They manage to open up to me. I listened to them helped then with their emotional problems. Week Four This week I used close circles of communications approach that helped the back and forth communication between the children. I also used parallel play whereby the students played with each other and play differently to development in Healthy Relationship. This helped them take turns, one student will run one lap with the toy and wait for the other student to go the same lap by doing this you will be enabling social understanding. They also played the Healthy Relationship Bingo activities. Enhancing relationships is a key factor in determining how they cooperate among each other to address their social aspects and skills. Therapeutic approaches foster growth and development. Week Five This week l used different social games. First, I implemented hide and seek whereby one of the students will take the role of the seeker while the others hide so that the seeker can find them to enhance social skills. This helped the kids to be social since they interacted through this game. After this, I used Go fish, which is fun and an easy card game that can teach turn taking and conversation. I wrote enough words in a card for each student to get the card he/she must tell how the word is used in a sentence. The student learned how to ask and answer questions correctly through this game. I also used Social Skills Bingo since it provides the students with ideas to interact with others. I cut out cue cards from pictures of magazine and use photographs. This cue cards helped them remember what to do in the morning and even how to pack his things at the end of the day. I show them the cue cards and told them the expression then when there is in trouble or needs assistance they will be able to show the cards. This cards will also help them know what to do next. 0 Recommendation 1-A teacher should know well their students before implementing any techniques. 2- Be patient with autism students. 3- Have a clear schedule of the day’s events. 4- Pay attention to individual students. 5 Have an alternative method just in case the one you planned to use doesn’t work. 6- Always use practical examples with your students they learn well by seeing than listening. 7- Teachers should use social skills when trying to teach about communication. This will help the student to practice it. 8- Involve parents in you plan so that they can practice it at home. 9- Be patient with the autism students they tend to have difficulty in processing the information. 10- If you have a student with anger problem find out the cause and help how know how to handle it. 11- Know your students strengths and weakness and find a way to improve it. 12- Make sure that all your students are attentive before giving out instructions.
