Life Design Map/Career Development Exploration Life Design Map Career Development Exploration Today’s modern climate is highly competitive. Because of this, I cannot just build it when I graduate and reckon on getting a grand job or a distinguished career finds me. Therefore, it is advantageous to outline my interests as soon as possible in order to decide what extra schooling becomes logical for my field of choice (Bolles & Christein, 2006. I need to plan early decisions and have passions that will result to my dream job. A plan of set goals will help me in finding a job that is perfect for me, and who I want to be. Therefore in this context, I illustrate my preferred skills in life which include my best transferable skills, my favorite interests and my best self-management skills. I also illustrate my preferred environment which includes my ideal community, my favorite types of people and my ideal work environment. My goals are also illustrated. I have preferred skills in life. Transferable skills are assembled from life experiences, volunteer work, hobbies and various jobs. To know my transferable skills, I need to assess my life experience in order to rate and organize my skills for the dream job. My transferable skills are; I am able to plan and organize occasions and activities, I can motivate others so that they can realize their strengths and implement them. Through life experience, I can assess and evaluate my own work. I can manage time very comfortably. Through various volunteer works that I have done, I am able to delegate responsibilities. I have favorite interests in life. These are the things that describe my personality. Some employers choose employees on the basis of personality and attitude and, therefore, I do not regret having the following as my favorite interests. I truly love music, more specifically rock music. Music is a basic art, and it comes from the atmosphere that inspires my life. Listening to music makes me a more direct person to life. I love sports. I am a health conscious person and sports play a crucial role in this. Through sports, I am a very active and alert person. My favorite sport is swimming. Travelling to new countries is also a hobby that I do enjoy because I am able to explore the world and meet new people. Management skills are extremely valuable because they determine the performance of an organization. Regardless of the experience that a person has strong management is always based on outstanding leadership skills. These skills are learnable, just like any other abilities (Bolles & Christein, 2006). I have learnt some management skills which I now consider as my best self-management skills. I have time management skills because I am able to identify and resolve time management issues. I can schedule my free time. I have skills in managing finances. This is so because I can create my budget and modify my expenditure to meet its requirements. Another self-management skill is communication skills because I am an outstanding and active listener and I talk slowly, asking questions when need be, in order to evaluate if my listeners understand. I also have preferred environment in my life. This is because I need to thrive in an environment that I feel safe, where I can interact with people freely, and the environment is supposed to be vice free. I need to be happy hence I choose to have a safe environment so that I can develop professionally. My first ideal community is police protection. I find this to be so essential because police provide significant security and welfare to the entire community since crime is significantly increasing. My second ideal community is accomplished schools. Ignorance is reduced in a community if additional reputable schools are available (Bolles & Christein, 2006). Good schools provide quality education to students in order to prepare them for the outside competitive world. My third ideal community is where there is affordable access to medical care. Whenever people feel unwell, it is so valuable that medical facilities be easily accessed in order to have a community that is healthy so that people can perform their duties well. My fourth ideal community is public transportation. This is important for the growth of various business hence the development of a community. My final, ideal community is a place where people treat one another as human beings. This is living with others in a decent neighborhood and sharing ideas. My favorite types of people according to Holland Code include realistic people. These are the people who choose to work tools, objects or plants. They also prefer to be outdoors. Secondly my favorite types of people are the investigative individuals who like to investigate, evaluate or solve problems. These people are essentially scientific or mathematical in nature. Third, I also love people who are enterprising because they love to work with others (Bolles & Christein, 2006). They influence others, directing or managing them for financial gain. They also enjoy leadership situations. All these people are particularly relevant to me because they build my personality and attitude towards life. My ideal work environment is where I can work to develop professionally, and intellectually. This is illustrated when my ideas are accepted and implemented. Second, my ideal work environment is where my knowledge and effort is valued in terms of possessing an economic balance and security in the organization. Thirdly, I prefer a work environment that offers an easy to use and cost efficient assessment that neutrally analyze my perfect work environment. The resulting evaluation offers an individualized outline that can be beneficial in the selection of prospective new positions. Fourth, my ideal work environment is where individuals are provided with a fresh attitude in their job and career exploration. Progressive growth of skills and proficiency should allow me to move to higher and better positions. My fifth ideal work environment is when my office can be at home. With this, I would have all my windows opened so that I can have a glance outside, and let the sunshine into the house. I would like to have the significant equipment like the phone, and the computer in order to perform my tasks very effectively. I am happiest and most industrious when I work in an environment that is perfect for me (Bolles & Christein, 2006). There are various factors that are considered by employers when determining a starting salary for an employee. When taking into account a job offer, I need to consider the geographic setting and cost of living because they play a significant role in establishing how much salary I will be offered. This also determines whether I can afford to acknowledge the offered job. Supply and demand play a part also in the determination of starting salary (Bolles & Christein, 2006). For my ideal salary, this depends on my job. I should be able to attain my ideal salary during my lifetime. The more I earn the more habits I get to expend because no one gets contented with money, and that is what would make me more motivated. As I progress in my career, I expect to have a reasonable salary too. Therefore, the level of my profession should be correspondent to the amount of salary that I earn. In life, it is necessary to have set goals because they direct me towards achieving them. Goals help me divide what is significant from what is not relevant. I get motivated because of my set goals. Goals help to build my self-confidence, and this depends on thriving achievement of goals. I need to review and update my goals on a regular basis. My six month goal is that I want to go back to school and finalize my degree in the continuing studies that I am undertaking. My one to three years goal is to volunteer in developments that the present management is heading in the company that I am interested in working for. Another goal is that I want to start working in the company as an accountant. By the end of three years, I want to be a chief accountant. My lifetime goals are also extremely vital to me because they keep me focused. I am interested in the accountancy field, where I would like to be the finance director. I would also want to manage my own firm so that I can also employ people to work under me. My lifetime goal is to become a worldwide business person who can work well with people. I also intend to open up a charity home so that the needy people can benefit from my achievements. Conclusion Life experience plays a significant role in determining exploration of career development. This is illustrated in the above context where skills and attitude can benefit a person’s choice of career. Personally I am delighted to have interacted with various people because they have helped me develop skills that are significant towards the choice of my career. Skills are learned as one grows. So it is vital to acquire appropriate skills as illustrated by Bolles and Christein (2006). Reference Bolles, N. R., & Christein, C. (2006). What Color is Your Parachute?
