Individual Personality Section 1: Introduction Every person has a different personality due to which, he shows different types of interests towards various aspects of his life. For evaluation of a personality, different tests are performed, which indicate towards several traits that a person’s personality has. In this paper, various personality tests are incorporated that indicate towards my personality. I have conducted Myers-Briggs Test, NEEDS Test, Self-monitoring Test, Self-efficacy Test, RIASEC Test and O*net Test in order to evaluate my personality and my future aspired career. This paper discusses all the above-mentioned tests that I have conducted with full details concerning evaluation of a personality and my future aims. I have a future aspiration to become a chief executive according to which, I have made choices for specific subjects as majors. I have taken double majors, which are Management and Economics. According to my knowledge and understanding, these two subjects are interrelated to each other and are supportive for my future career. Management is one of the most popular major in my country, especially in my city, Dubai. Management will give me an excellent background for my future Master degree, so I am thinking seriously to follow-up graduate studies in leadership and strategic management majors immediately after the completion of the Bachelor degree in the United States of America. In addition to Management, I also have Economics as my major subject. In my view, it is important for every director to know about global market conditions, the stock market, competitors in the market and the prices, so he can take the appropriate decisions and develop appropriate plans for an organization. Therefore, I consider that Economics major is complementary to Management major. After my Master degree, I want to work for one year in the United States of America in order to gain more experience and to improve my skills and knowledge in my respective fields of expertise. On a personal level, I like to lead a group of individuals, develop appropriate plans and discuss them to try to achieve the set plans in a specified period. I am an ambitious person and I work diligently and enthusiastically to achieve my dream career. For that reason, study of leadership and strategic management majors in Master degree, is one of my priorities to achieve my dream to be a “Chief Executive”. Section 2: Myers-Briggs Test Myers-Briggs test is regarded as the mostly used test for analysis of a personality. According to this test, the individual is described in terms of his interaction with the world. The test considers four aspects of personality, which are whether an individual is an extrovert (E) or introvert (I) , whether his personality is sensing (S) or intuitive (N), whether he prefers thinking (T) or feeling (F) and lastly, whether his personality is judging (J) or perceiving (P). When a person tests his personality through these tests, his personality is depicted as an introvert or extrovert. As far as, his outlook is concerned, it is judged in terms of his being practical or imaginative. For his temperament, the selections are made on the basis of his being cool or warm. For the lifestyle of the person, two options are given, organized and easygoing. Therefore, after the test, an individual is categorized as extrovert or introvert, practical or imaginative, cool or warm and organized or easygoing. E is used for extrovert and I for introvert and the person is given either E or I. S is given for being practical and N for being imaginative. T is given for being cool and F for being warm. For being organized, J is given and for easy going, P is given. According to Myers-Briggs test, there are sixteen personality types. I fall into the personality type “ENTJ”. The tests found my personality as Extrovert because I show interest towards the outer world and like to interact with people. I am sociable, outgoing and like to get broad experience due to which, I am considered as an extrovert by the test. N was assigned to me because of my being imaginative. I am full of ideas, see meaning, idealistic and work in bursts. T is given to me because of my being cool according to the test. I seek respect, prefer thinking, I prefer to be independent and I always value truth, all the mentioned traits helped me in having a cool personality according to the test. J was assigned to me because of my having an organized lifestyle. I make plans and decisions, set goals, complete my works and I have control on myself. Section 3: NEEDS Test The NEEDS test is conducted to get awareness to the needs of a person and to categorize his personality according to his needs. Every person has his own needs besides basis needs. For getting near to a goal, also there are some needs. For attainment of the goals, a person struggles and puts effort in order to get his needed goals. The needs that are associated to certain goals in life are called motivation needs and the NEEDS test is conducted to gain awareness of motivation needs of an individual. According to McClelland’s Theory of Needs, needs can be divided into four categories that are Need for achievement (nAch), Need for power (nPow), Need for affiliation (nAff) and Need for cognition (nCog). The NEEDS test tries to find out the greatest need of the individual, whose personality type is evaluated according to the test. There are equal numbers of questions for one category of need. A person’s greatest need is judged by means of his scoring in the questions asked for that need. According to the test, my greatest need is “Achievement” because I scored the most for the questions asked for the category of Need of achievement. For me, accomplishment is the most important aspect of life, I always try to get higher grades, I get upset because of failure, I give utmost importance to awards and I have well-defined and set goals for my life. Being an ambitious person, success and achievement are of great value for me and for my motivation in life, achievement is essential. Section 4: Self-monitoring Test Self-monitoring test is a personality test in which, a person is asked to answer in true or false in order to monitor his personality. In this test, the personality of a person is evaluated by means of his interaction to the outer environment and the questions that are asked deal with situational factors. Higher scores indicate higher self-monitoring. The answers of scores in terms of true and false are fixed and when one answers in true or false, he gets scored accordingly. I got 11 points, which are near high score that is 12. At 9, the score is median. By answering the eighteen questions, I got a score of 11 that indicates that I am able to monitor myself to a certain extent. My score is more than median score due to which, my score can be calculated as a high score. My behavior that was analyzed by means of the test was based on my personal reactions to a number of different situations. Section 5: Self-efficacy Test Personality test for self-efficacy deals with self-directed competence, restrictive conformity and prosocial concern. In this test, the individual’s beliefs concerns his capacity of success in specific tasks is evaluated by means of a number of questions. Self-efficacy in an individual is accessed by means of direct experience and vicarious experience. Direct experience deals with past performance of similar tasks by the individual himself due to which direct experience is gained. Vicarious experience deals with the performance of other people on the same tasks. In the self-efficacy test, I got 52 points for self-directed competence, 48 points for restrictive conformity and 71 points for prosocial concern. The second part of self-efficacy test requires answers from four given answers that are “Not at all true”, “Hardly true”, “Moderately true” and “Exactly true”. The median score for the second part was 20. I got 37 that is a high score. Because of higher score of the test, I have got higher self-efficacy. The results indicate that my personality type has higher self-efficacy. Section 6: Strong Vocational Interest (RIASEC Test) RIASEC depends on various traits found in the personality of an individual such as R represents realistic, I stands for investigative, A stands for artistic, S stands for social, E stands for Enterprising and C for conventional. According to the RIASEC test, my RIASEC is ERS and my score is 22. ERS means that my given answers indicate me to be enterprising, realistic and social. Being enterprising is my first preference as I show more interest towards my future career and present in terms of financial gains and monetary issues. I am also indicated to be realistic, as I know what I want and show my interests without any problem. According to the test, on my third preference, social life is there, as I show concern for being social. Section 7: Information about Future Career from O*net Test According to my future aspiration, I like to be a chief executive. For being in the group of chief executives, many tasks are to be performed. According to the O*net test, the chief executives should be able to “determine and formulate policies and provide the overall direction of companies or private and public sector organizations within the guidelines set up by a board of directors or similar governing body.” They should be able to “plan, direct, or coordinate operational activities at the highest level of management with the help of subordinate executives and staff managers.” Chief executives are at the highest level of an organization and are required to manage all the activities performed in an organization. They should be able to do a number of tasks in order to support and assist the workers of their organizations. The tasks that they should perform are direction and coordination in terms of financial and budgetary activities, holding conferences for the resolution of problems, evaluation of performances of subordinates, planning and implementation of policies, negotiation and approval of contracts, reviewing reports, appointing departmental heads in an organization and direction of human resource activities. Section 8: Integration and Insights The exercise that I have done incorporating all the tests that I have conducted was very fruitful in the judgment of my personality and my future career. From the test results that I have gained, it is quite clear that my aspired career that is to a chief executive matches my personality to a great extent. The first test that is Myers-Briggs test sets me in the personality type, ENTJ due to which, I become eligible for a career of my choice. I am an extrovert, as I like to be social and friendly; also, I like to interact with people. I am imaginative that means that I always do what I aspire, I also think before doing any of the tasks and finally I make judgments. All of the mentioned traits will help me to move towards my aspired career. The qualities that I should have according to the O*net test match my personality. By the help of second test that is NEEDS test, I gained awareness that I give maximum importance to achievement in my life. I can be motivated because of achievements and accomplishments of my life. To become a chief executive or to get to the post of chief executive is my aspiration and when I will be able to get my aspired career, I will have a sense of accomplishment and achievement. Besides basic needs, for me achievement is must for my survival with respect and integrity. In self-monitoring test, I got 11 points that is near to higher score that is 12. This result indicates that I have the ability to monitor my personality. I have higher self-monitoring personality. I have got higher self-efficacy. I gain mostly from my own experiences. I got highest points for prosocial concern. For self-directed competence, I got less than prosocial concern and restrictive conformity was the last. According to the RIASEC test, my RIASEC is ERS, which means that I am more enterprising, more realistic and more social then other personality traits such as investigative, artistic and conventional. The test indicates that I prefer my certain code of conducts such as being enterprising, realistic and social. The information about my career as a chief executive that I acquired from O*net test indicates that the abilities that are required for being a chief executive suit me. Due to the O*net test, I also gained information about what qualities, abilities, knowledge, skills and characteristics should I have. It was really helpful in accommodating me with knowledge about what should a chief executive know and have in order to perform his job actively and advantageously. The exercise was quite insightful as I got enough knowledge about my preferences and my personality. My RIASEC is ERS, which indicates that I have less interest towards investigative ability. As a chief executive, I should have this quality as well while other qualities that I have suit the career. Also according to Myers-Briggs test, I am intuitive, which is good but being practical is also a necessity for pursuing a career of chief executive. I have to give consideration towards this aspect.
