My Personality Development One of the central aspects of my personality formation is the culture and family I was born it. My parents always stressed on the value of good education and self-sufficiency, which as they say, necessary for the today’s highly competitive world. Under their influence I developed a need to correspond to their expectations, which became the first driving force leading me to achievements. Later, however, trying my best and proving that I am capable of much became my habit in life.
What motivated me to get a higher education outside China and to move to another country is to fulfill my goals. Not only the need for knowledge became a decisive factor that pushed me towards moving, but the need for experience and my curiosity well. Therefore, I can say that I found my motivation in a desire to develop and discover the world in order to find the place where I will be able to reveal and apply my potential and be satisfied with self. Being ready to move to another country was actually a goal challenging enough to try hard, be persistent and diligent. Importantly, I have always been confident in self and believed that success is achievable. Therefore, a positive attitude towards the world is peculiar to me.
It was, obviously, not without experiencing a significant amount of stress since my living conditions had completely changed. I left my supportive family and my usual circle of friend where I could feel confident and protected. In contrast, in the United States I appeared in a totally different environment in which not only the people, culture, and mode of life differed but, importantly, the degree of responsibility which I had to display as well. Such conditions allowed no space for the emotion-focused coping because I realized that this is a natural reaction on the changing events and this is in my power to reduce a painful time of adaptation. My ability to view things constructively played its role here. Therefore, till now I prefer a problem-focused coping that helps me to address an obstacle directly and thoughtfully. The following is both more effective, less threatening for my health and well-being, and can become my key to success.
Thinking positively and surrounded by supportive, understanding, and open people who are always ready to listen, to advise, or who are simply easy going and all-round people that are nice and interesting to talk to. By sharing our thoughts and having a chat I always feel like being close to them. As a result, there is no time for mulling over hardships and problems I can encounter. Instead, there is always much positive information in my head. At the same time, I always try to remain positive about other people and always be open for communication as I am more an extravert that introvert. Do to it, I found it not quite difficult to find a common language with people of different cultures and nationalities. Moreover, I was raised in a way that does not allow offending a person or considering that I can have some personal reasons to show disrespect of others.
As a whole, I think that the way I was raised, my culture, and especially my parents appeared to be very favorable for the formation of a healthy personality I have today. I know that moderation is good and do not fall into extremes, which is a guarantee for the adequate world outlook. Namely, I think that I have a moderate optimal arousal that is sufficient enough to be active and persistent when I want something, but also careful and thinking, so I would mull over several times before doing. In addition, to my mind, I have good genetics with my parents enjoying good emotional and physiological health which also contributed to my preferring healthy activities and healthy ways of coping with stress.
