Extract of sample "Cheeris Functional Behavior Assessment"

Cheeri’s behavior can be considered to be challenging behavior. Despite that fact, Cherri is gifted and bright her behavior may negatively affect the performance of the other student. In other words, a student’s ability to take instructions from the teacher will always be affected every moment she misbehaves. For instance, when she rubs her legs, and rocks in her chair among another mischief, she demonstrates this aspect (New Mexico Public Education Department Technical Assistance, 44).

Cherri’s behaviors can be changed. Before her behavior is changed, there must be a clear definition of the target behavior. In addition, more information needs to be gathered. It should concern her behavior to select the most suitable method of intervention. This information may be collected from consequent as well as antecedent events. Although different actions require different data collection methods, it is upon her teacher to identify the most appropriate method which will protect the privacy of her situation. For instance, the teacher may decide to assess her situation using indirect measures (New Mexico Public Education Department Technical Assistance, 54).

In recap, the success of the intervention for Cherri will depend entirely on the accuracy of the efforts made by the persons responsible for the evaluation of her problem. If the information proves to be accurate, the right intervention procedure is implemented. This bears the significance of changing her situation.
