Enthymemes in the Media Enthymemes in the Media Enthymemes are a common type of rhetoric that is frequently used to make a conclusion. It usually has a hidden meaning to bring about a particular type of connotation. There are several types of enthymemes that can be used in the media. The most common areas where enthymemes are used include advertisements that are meant to entice the audience and the likely consumers. At times, they are also used in the courts of law to present a certain argument with the intention of obtaining a particular judgment.
One of the proper examples is the advertising slogan that is used by Emerald perfume by Coty. It states “Want him to be more of a man? Try being more of a woman!” The hidden expression in the enthymeme is that the expectations of being more of a man and more of a woman have changed over time. In the past, being more than a man meant that the individual was in possession of 26-inch biceps and the ability to drive faster than anybody else. On the other hand being a woman meant that the person was playing hard to get.
However, the slogan insinuates that being more than a man means that the person should be strong enough to be gentle while to be more than a woman means that the person does not act at all but is able to be real. This is the feeling and ability that both men and women get after the purchase and use of the Emerald perfume. In essence, this perfume has the magic and special capability to change people and give them the desirable qualities from the other party. References"Want him to be more of a man?
