Thus, as most experts argue, gender is as a result of nurture while sex is as a result of nature. Therefore, the biological composition of a person’s reproductive anatomy determines the individual’s sex while the social roles which are determined by the individual’s sex define the person’s gender. Sometimes, gender is argued to be the sex of an individual’s brain. In circumstances when the gender and sex of a person do not match or align, it leads to the person being transgender.

People normally use the two terms interchangeably when engaging in ordinary talk. As such, the distinction between gender and sex is not a universal element. However, the American heritage dictionary and the American psychological association divides sex into two distinct divisions; male and female. A lot of living organisms are then classified as either female or male according to the type of their reproductive organs. A lot of scientists unanimously agree that behaviors are generally phenotypes (environment and biology interactions) and hence nature versus nurture as a basis for categorization is both wrong and misleading.

Anisogamy which is the difference between the sex cells is the basic differentiating element between males and females. Thus, males have smaller gametes (sperm) while the females have larger gametes which are termed as Ovaries. In summary, gender refers to feminine or masculine while sex generally refers to female or male.Gender identity and sexual behavior is an individual’s private subjective experience and feeling of their gender. In basic terms, gender identity and sexual behavior describe a person’s sense of feeling of being a woman or a man.

Thus, the person accepts to join and be categorized as female or male.
