Emotional Regulation and Mindfulness Affiliation Emotional Regulation and Mindfulness Under-regulated emotions take place whenan individual does not have the ability to manage his or her feelings adaptively. Therefore, the types of behaviors that are likely to be seen in under-regulated emotions include anger, throwing things all over, yelling and screaming. Additionally, the client may go into depression in case where they want to do something and it fails to become productive. To help the client deal with these issues, it is imperative to label and identify the under-regulated emotions (Gross, 2007).

This is because by understanding the emotions a therapist can allow and tolerate the emotion by establishing a working distance through mindfulness, where the client can find ways to take out the anger positively. Additionally, positive emotion should be encouraged on the client in that, the client should be taught to see things in a positive perspective to establish where they have gone wrong and correct them hence, becoming productive in their work. A person who exhibits over-regulated emotions is one who does not show any emotion or may not be even aware of the emotions or they may be overly controlled or rational.

The type of behavior that is depicted from such individuals includes statements made by the client where they state that they are never angry (Gross, 2007). They are disassociated with their emotions, feelings, and experiences. One intervention that should help the client with coping or understanding their emotions is by assisting the client to become aware of their emotions, as well as, express their emotion. This is because in most cases individuals with over-regulated emotions fails or refuse to remember their experiences because they do not to feel overwhelmed and by forgetting they feel safe.
