The article under consideration is d “Yoga as a Complementary Treatment of Depression: Effects of Traits and Moods on Treatment Outcome”. It was written by a group of specialists and published in the Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine journal in 2007. The given article is dedicated to highlighting and empirically proving the positive effects of yoga on improving emotional health of depressed patients. For the purposes of the research 27 women and 10 men, diagnosed with the unipolar depression in partial remission, were offered courses of yoga classes.

All participants were subjected to pre and post-intervention assessments as well as were asked to evaluate their mood before and after each class. The following study showed positive correlations between yoga and improvements of the emotional state of all participants in terms of both subjective experience of patients and medically defined symptoms. In my opinion, the following article is of the great informative and educational value as far as it not only offers an evidence-based argument concerning effectiveness of yoga for treating depression, but also brings to the discussion previous studies dedicated to this topic and provides recommendations for the future research.

Moreover, it is well-structured, with each part of the article being separated, and written in a comprehensive and clear manner that is likely to be understood by both, a specialist and an average person who is interested in the issue. In addition, to my mind, the suggested topic deserves to be discussed and analyzed in details as far as the realities and speed of modern life result in depression becoming quite widespread today. Therefore, there is a need in the effective and efficient methods of dealing with depression – disorder which undermines one’s ability to function as an active member of the society and lead the full and happy life.
