Homeschooling as a Popular Trend in the US Education - Essay Example

As long as children have good relationships with parents and are involved into social activities beyond home there is no need to worry about limited view of society.The misconception regarding bad influence of homeschooling is created out of assumption that children taught at home spend their whole days at home as well. However, according to Ray, homeschoolers have on average 5 outside activities, such as dancing section, volunteer activity, ballet classes, travelling, church and so on. So obviously parents who have taken a decision to teach their children at home make sure that infants has alternative things to do (Ray, 2011).

Moreover, children who do not spend all their time with peers only are prone to interact with people of different age. And such conditions are more similar to real. Thus, children who are taught socialization not in artificially created groups of peers do not have typical age problems. In the course of a research conducted by Ray it was revealed that 71 % of adults who were homeschoolers earlier participated in social work compared to 34 % of general students (Ray, 2011).The major burden of homeschooling lies on the parents, and if parents are not committed to the process a child can have problems with basic social interaction and lack such skills as empathy and understanding and tolerance to diversity.

Therefore, with decent preparation parents are able to provide children with normal social development (Hatter, 2010).According to Turansky, homeschooled children receive an exceptional opportunity to build a strong self-esteem being inspired by parents. In home conditions infants can have such a degree of security and trust that allows children speaking and expressing freely. As a result children taught by their parents become independent learners original in their manner of thinking. In a company of peers they show themselves as self-sufficient and independent, they are not converted to harmful activities and habits of their friends.

Even colleges pay more attention to the children who were homeschooled since they can show better results and become good and open-minded leaders (2012).Therefore, usual prejudices about children who were homeschooled cannot be supported in real situations. On the contrary, homeschooling allows children gaining knowledge in a company of a trusted parent which boosts their self-esteem and evokes real interest to studying. Moreover, children compensate social activities with alternatives, such as sports, hiking, church more often.

And finally, children learn the world model that is more applicable to the real life when people you meet are of different ages.
