Assignment Eight studying at the college or university level are more susceptible to behavioral change sowing to both mental stress factors and age. Some issues that maybe require crisis intervention includes addiction to drugs, alcohol or smoking, academic stress, loneliness and isolation, confused sexual identity, low self-esteem, financial stress and personal relationship problems. These are the most common problems that plague a student’s life and often tend to have negative impact not only on their performance but on their holistic growth as well.
Community counseling needs to be done to help students open up and also gain the mental strength to overcome the stress. Mental health of an affected individual is better understood by community counselors who help the individuals in understanding the problems to the core, finding their own mental strength and becoming more resilient. This helps build up a community of people who undergo the same stress factors.Managed care was initiated for the benefit of the masses. For individuals who use managed care, it becomes important for the counselor the limitedness of sessions and chalk out a plan accordingly.
Community counseling is one of the methods that a counselor may use for their clients in order to augment the therapy sessions (Miller, 2010,p7)With the advent of technology internet counseling has emerged as an efficient to deliver counseling. In this case individuals obtain help often without revealing their identities and a single intervention can be therapeutically applied for an online user’s community thereby helping build up a community (Richards, 2009). The benefits of internet counseling come in the form of unlimited access and flexible timing.
