GROUP DYNAMICS-GROUP PROCESSES INSTITUION Psychology refers to the study of how an individual or a group behave. There are various characteristics that can be deduced from these behaviors can be portrayed in different ways. For example, in the movie, Remember the Titans, there are various behavioral patterns that can be observed and categorized into social psychological concepts (Forsyth, 2014). The objective of this paper is to anayze three concepts, namely biases, intergroup conflict and cohesion.

Biases is an unethical act that gives one person unfair opportunity over the other. Biasness can take different forms, for example, racial discrimination. In the movie, Remember the Titans, the movie is shot in Alexandria VA. This is a state which the integration of civil right is currently ongoing, but has not yet been fully implemented. With these laws came outrage from the white families who opposed the combination of a white and black school. The head coach , coach Boones ,who is black, get the job over the hall of fame Boones takes all the players for camping for two weeks so that they can value and respect each other.

They are put under intense training to understand the importance of team work and look beyond their skin color. Intergroup conflict is a social psychological concept that occurs when the desires of one team seem to override that of the other group and there is not agreement that has been reached. Intergroup conflict is quite evident in the movie, Remember the Titans when the white players start to worry about their positions on the first team. Since the positions are scarce, there is a scramble between the white and black players.

In one instance, there are some white players that did not protect a black player and this made him look unprepared. They did this with the intent of securing a position for a player of their race. This eventually led to a conflict between player of both races. The black players had to deal with the fact that they were losing their starting positions and they had to look for a way that they would revenge the white players. It forced Julius and Gerry to talk to the players and reach an amicable solution.

Later they learned that it was not just about the starting spots anymore, but the overall achievement of the team. Cohesion is a social psychological concept that emphasizes on the importance of being united (Forsyth, 2014). Cohesion is evident in the movie, Remember the Titans. Firstly, there is a black community and white community. As the movie progresses, you can notice that there are black player and the white players. Furthermore, there is a black coach and a white coach. All the white players, who appear to be racists are seen to conform together at the beginning of the movie.

This is also evident with the black players. However, in the end the play all conform to form one team,The players were able to get the right attitude that enables them to conform with each other. Cohesion between the two sets of places with different races is evident when they chose to do their exercise together by dancing and singing. This shows that cohesion may be a problem at the start but later on it can bring a community together. ReferencesForsyth, D. R. (2014). Group dynamics.
