Obesity in the United s Affiliation: Health care is a fundamental factor in the societal setting. In the United States, obesity is increasingly becoming a public health issue. Many more people are reported medically obese from time to time. The statistics of obese children and adults both within and outside United States are worrying. In this respect, obesity has become a huge epidemic in the United States. There is dire need to address the problem of obesity as soon as possible. In essence, obesity is a health problem that requires key medical practices and/or intervention.
Combating the problem will encompass the adoption of controlled and manageable eating behaviors. On the same note, diet will be critical to consider. The diet factor comes in due to the concept of Body Mass Index that helps to rate an individual’s level of obesity. Looking into these aspects can go to a greater length in terms of addressing obesity issues in the American society. The first move towards addressing obesity issues is to promote healthy eating and dieting. In most American neighborhoods, fast food restaurants offer easy access to quick and cheap meals.
The problem, however, is that these cheap meals turn into expensive outcomes when obesity patients seek to confront the problem. The culture of fast food and unhealthy eating will have to change in order to realize the full potential of addressing obesity.Over and above healthy eating and dieting, the entire society has to get accustomed to regular exercise or physical activity. Doing so will ensure that fat levels remain low, thus reducing cases of obesity across United States. On the same note, both obese and non-obese persons need to be sensitized on the avoidance of sugary and fatty foods while taking more dietary fiber in their foods.
This can be a significant approach towards realizing balanced and appropriate levels of body fats. For children and patients already suffering the effects of obesity, medical intervention is necessary. Medical attention will go a long way in addressing obesity-related health problems such as heart disease and diabetes. Most importantly, people need to pay attention to their food energy intake. Doing so can address the problem right from the root cause. Obesity has gone out of control because many people disregard the importance of healthy eating.
On the same note, fast foods have become lucrative revenue avenues at the expense of consumers. Failure to take personal or social health responsibility has further driven this problem out of control. In addressing obesity and related public health issues, psychologists can actually play an active role. To start with, there is need to create awareness about the implications of poor and unhealthy diets. In so doing, counseling comes in handy. Individuals and the society in general have to understand why obesity is a problem.
Moreover, individual and societal behavior also influences trends in obesity statistics. With the concept of behavior and psychology fundamentally intertwined, psychologists can work alongside healthcare practitioners in promoting healthy eating and dieting behaviors in the American society.
