Sensation and perception: stereoscopic vision Sensation and perception: stereoscopic vision The story about Dr. Barry Sue is one amazing but the rather mysterious story to any normal human being as I, who have not experienced stereoscopic vision, unless with the aid of the space age 3D technology present on earth. I find it rather exiting in that an individual can develop wonderful skills left by creation and nature for us to explore. No one ever knew that someone like Dr. Barry would achieve such a vision based on her already limited vision capabilities.

Living in such a life as Dr. Sue would be interesting but rather challenging both socially and mentally. Telling one’s friends that you can have stereoscopic vision unaided by technology would seem kind of insane. Some friend would say that you are imagining things and others would distance themselves from you. It will be surprising if I got to doubt my sanity based on the fact that is not a normal thing. The interesting part to me is that I will be a special person because I get to have what many people do not.

Having a stereoscopic vision is like being part and parcel of the real nature. It will feel good because it’s like talking to a lion yet you share different language and perceptions.I do not know of anyone who has stereoscopic vision. This proves the fact this it is indeed a rare capability and experience. However, if I knew of such I would definitely enjoy being close to that person and even try to learn and master such impeccable ability. As I read the story of Dr. Barry Sue, there were many things that passed my mind.

The first question was whether this was truly possible by nature, and at some point I questioned the sanity of Dr. Sue. I thought it was a lie. The other thing that happened to me was that I tried to put myself in the Dr. Sue’s shoe trying to imagine what it felt like being able to distinguish molecules from space. I pictured it in my mind and I concluded that that would be such an amazing experience. It was like choosing which airs to breathe and seeing the one you exhaled. I felt like I wanted to have the same ability as the doctor, a feeling which I still possess to the present time.

When I took a dark cloth and covered one of my eyes, I never felt normal. My vision was quite impaired for the first time because I could not see things the way I am used to. However, when I prolonged the test, I got comfortable with my present state. Though everything was not as usual, I did not feel disadvantaged in any way. I felt empowered in that I had the same ability almost similar to that one before, only that it was not as detailed as the initial experience. I never felt a great difference from being normal.
