The person grabs an unsuspecting woman from behind intending to have sex with her though after some time he desists (Freud, Dufresne & Richter, 2011). ID’s drive is strong which prompts him to force his way into attaining things instantly to satisfy internal cravings, for instance, he is not patient enough in the supermarket/shop. He intends to get the foodstuffs straight from the shelf without considering purchasing process.

This is evident from the Ego’s conduct, which encompasses making decisions based on rational thinking (Malone, 2009). Hence, restrains ID’s primitive drives and allows their satisfaction when it is necessary and at an appropriate time or place. The character representing Ego does not yield to all ID’s demands but exercises his choices based on reality (Freud, Dufresne & Richter, 2011). This implies that he cannot have everything he wants at all times, but should exercise discipline. Mainly, this is via judging things by comparing them with memories or experiences to restrain oneself for more happiness in the future than the present (Akhtar, O'Neil & Freud, 2011). For instance, through waiting and acting rationally, Ego eventually wins over the woman’s admiration and she ends up initiating an affair. This is apparent at the end where the ego approves ID’s desires but at an appropriate time and setting (Akhtar, O'Neil & Freud, 2011). Read More
