Section/# Annotated Bibliography Loughrin, Sandra Marie. "Constructing family among same-sex couples: A comparativestudy of same-sex Latino and White couples." Dissertation Abstracts International Section A 73. (2012). PsycINFO. Web. 8 Feb. 2013.
Primary Goal:
To try to clarify the following questions:
What constructs of the term “family” exist within the Latino same sex community as compared to the White same-sex community?
What type of implications does such an understanding have for the greater societal and legal aspects of conception/adoption?
What is the importance of familial acceptance for current relationships?
How does cultural and familial acceptance influence upon the determinate to seek to convieve?
Present research has indicated that there are no main differentials that exist, to any notable scale, with relation to same sex conception in the Latino and White communities that exist within the nation; however, the authors feel this is not the case and hypothesize that due a large number of societal, familial, and cultural constraints that ultimately define these relationships that key differentials can be found.
As such, the ultimate aim of the study is to seek to seek to measure if such a supposed and hypothesized differential exists.
Foundation for Project:
The unfortunate fact of the matter is that prior research has almost invariably lumped ethnic groups together and spoken broadly and superficially regarding same sex couples and the desire and determinants of conception. This has often been done due to the belief by the researchers and authors that the subjects under consideration were “gay first’ and “ethnic second”. Such a flawed construct was immediately noted and thrown out for purposes of this particular research as the issue was approached based upon the determinants that ultimately inform it rather than any preconceptions regarding what hierarchy of information is placed upon the group or sexual orientation in question.
As with previous studies, the authors noted that it was important to differentiate the fact that there are subtle subgroup differences in the labeling of “Hispanic” vs. “Latino”.
Data was gathered from 15 queer Latinos and 15 queer whites
All respondents were required to be in what were considered committed relationships; i.e. those relationships that have been steady and committed for a period of more than 1 year’s time.
Desire to conceive and attitudes towards parenthood were measured by sampling and interview questions on the target group
It was noted that cultural influences, as expected accounted for a large percentage increase between Latinos as compared to whites with regards to overall acceptance of same sex couples conceiving.
It was further noted that familial influences among white and Latino respondents differed as well with regards to the level of acceptance that these familial constraints implaced.
Conclusions and Implications:
The model supports the fact that a greater level of research needs to be performed in this area to continue to define and illuminate the level of determinants that ultimately exist between ethnic groups with relation to conception and parenthood.
It should be further noted that the geographic scope of the analysis could have stood to be improved as it only spoke to but a few specific regions and further studies with a broader scope could help to benefit a more full and complete understand. Read More

E-commerce Contractual Issues

E-commerce contractual issues The paper deals with case of Todd vs Foodmart in the field of e-commerce contractual issues. It is claimed that contractual issues and agreements of online trading are as much important, as regulations in bricks-and-mortar businesses.
Key words: e-commerce, contractual issues, agreement, legal subject.
Current scenario provides clearly identified business and contractual issues of Foodmart. On the one hand, it is hard to understand a specific policy of Foodmart, because interests of clients are one of the most important concerns for both brick-and-mortar and click-and-mortar businesses. A fair basis for operations for both types of businesses should be equal and in case of special regulations...

Several Issues Created by the East India Company

The eventful history of India and Pakistan gives plenty of reason to attribute to their bitter rivalry. The wars fought in 1965, 1971 and 1947 are a testament to this; so are the various bombings that each country’s intelligence agencies have planned on each other’s country (Crossette, 2008). Both countries have constantly bombarded each other over the line of control and escalation of forces at the border to mount pressure on each other has become a frequent course of action. Kashmir still remains disputed territory with no sign of resolution in the coming future. Even the control of environmental resources such as water and its use (Indus Water Treaty) has been a cause of concern and argument for each country. It is...

Are Disabled People Going To Be Winners Or Losers

This dissertation will, therefore, establish whether the White Paper will bring real benefits to the disabled or whether the concerns of organizations working for the disabled are actually well-founded.

People who are in work have better opportunities to improve their lives and consequently visit their GPs less often. Even their children and partners benefit. It gives many people self-esteem, companionship, and status.

The initial aim, therefore, is to investigate whether the provisions in the White Paper can theoretically deliver these benefits. This will provide an opportunity to identify any loopholes or gaps in the government’s plan.

The second aim is to then consider the objections to th...

Driving Under the Influence in Georgia

By the end of the late 1970s, driving under the influence was recognized more and more as a crime, and pressure from groups such as MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving) tightened and refined the laws regarding intoxicated driving.
The legal level of intoxication dropped from a BAC (blood alcohol concentration) of .15 down to .10. This limit has since dropped to .08, although zero-tolerance laws can make it a crime to drive with a BAC of .02 or less, depending on the circumstances. Automatic suspension of the driver’s license has been added, and while penalties vary somewhat from state to state, the vehicle may be immediately seized; the person jailed for 15-30 days and required...

Contemporary Issues in World of Politics Climate Change Policy

It is more than a particular problem of any specific community. In fact, climate change has a wider global nature compared to other environmental issues and it affects the people of every nation and boundary. Therefore, the issue of climate change has a far wider reach than the other environmental issues and it is an issue concerned with almost all the international communities. It is identifiable that national boundaries may attempt to prevent the movement of people and goods across the boundaries of the nation. However, when it comes to pertinent environmental issues such as climate change, these issues do not stop at borders, making them – some would argue – quintessentially global phenomena. “Climate change i...

Issues Connected to Human Resources Management

Notably, management professionals would agree, HRM system is an integration of various management practices with ‘people’ at its prime focus (Jackson, Schuler & Werner, 2008); and, the common factor between business organisations and educational institutions is ‘people,’ although their goals differ. This could be one main reason for attempting to implement HRM in educational institutions, although it is customized to organisational benefit.

Halachmi’s (2002a) extensive analysis on performance measurement clearly indicates the need for performance measurement in order to achieve the goals; and, it, in turn, establishes targets aligned to organisational goals and expectations; makes evalu...

Issues of Moral Philosophy

After the stimulus of the sensation has passed, there will remain a fleeting image or “fading relics of sensation” (Oakeshott, 1981: 249); these fading relics of sensation are called images or ideas. When we become conscious of images, it is called imagination. And when we try to recollect these images it is called memory. Being such, the whole gamut of human experience is made up of his/her entire memories. The succession of images in the mind is called mental discourse and it may be haphazard or regulated. Prudence is the recollection of past memories combined with present experience, thereby allowing human persons to associate, predict or anticipate others or even events. In this sense, prudence is natural wisdom an...

HRM Issues and Diversification Strategies of Nucor Corporation

The cyclical nature of the steel industry is too demanding for numerous business owners. Nucor has undeniably come through this business cycle to sustain an affirmative profit edge in each quarter since 1966 (Boyd & Gove, 2000).

In spite of their discouraging entrance in the steel industry, Nucor Corporation has become a benchmark for both the U.S. steel industry and the U.S. industry in general. It is one of the fastest-growing and most resourceful steel producers around the globe. Regardless of the decreasing demand for steel, Nucor’s expansion has been exceptional; the company is among the top producers of steel in the U.S. Without a Research and Development department, Nucor has constantly accomplished techno...
