The face to face interview was followed by numerous emails to clarify on the details not discussed during the interview. This paper is a description of Karen’s career in counseling as well as psychotherapy according to the face to face interview and emails. Karen Caffrey is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Juris Doctor. She was licensed by the State of Connecticut. She graduated in Lesley College in Boston with a Masters in Counseling in 1993. For the past 19 years, she has been a counselor for individuals, groups and couples suffering from various mental illnesses.
This include depression, anxiety, addictions, physical and sexual abuse, Post Traumatic Stress disorder and mental health wellness issues. She has also been involved in counseling of adult adoptees that experience depression due to rejection, anger and confusion following the process of adoption. Prior to her counseling career, she was a practicing lawyer for about ten years. This has enabled her to relate well with clients in the corporate world who suffer from mental illness. In addition, Karen is a qualified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner.
She has applied these skills in the management of acute and chronic stress conditions. In the management of her patients, Karen applies body centered psychotherapy techniques. She has been involved in the research and training programs on the application of body centered psychotherapy for mental conditions. According to Karen, this method enables the client to access the resources within the mind, body and spirit which make up a rich internal source of strength and wisdom. Furthermore, this method employs elements of bioenergetics, imagery, psychodynamics, gestalt and contemplative psychotherapy.
