The Four Levers of Control Harvard Business School professor Robert Simons wrote about business process management in his highly influential 1995 book, "Levers of Control: How Managers Use Innovative Control Systems to Drive Strategic Renewal". He identified the main four levers of control as: (Visiagie, 2010)1. Core Values2. Risks to be Avoided3. Strategic Uncertainties4. Critical Performance VariablesThe importance of this is shown in business management by the guarantee that four things will subsequently follow the four levers of control in planning: (Career Development Plan, 2010)1.

Obtaining commitment to the purpose of the company2. Staking out the territory3. Getting the job done4. Positioning for tomorrowThese principles can be applied to cloud computing in order to estimate its efficiency in the local organization’s business plans. Cloud Computing can be defined through “Software as a Service” (SaaS). Through SaaS companies that previously developed custom software solutions for business process management, such as accounting, payroll, customer relationship management (CRM), customer service telephony, etc.

on a commissioned-software platform basis, have now made these software services subscription-based and available on the web. This combined with the huge banks of server farms that make up the database-driven server environment of the modern web, represents cloud computing in the context of our business. When our business inquires as to the efficiency of SaaS and Cloud Computing, the business process management procedures used as guidelines can point to new structures, re-organizations, and critical savings for the corporation.

Examples of this are in no longer needing a custom programming team for application development, or in an easier Human Resources path to finding trained employees in the software. By outsourcing software development, accounting, and payroll to cloud computing, the company can not only save money, but also keep up to date with latest technological developments in Information Technology.Sources:Visiagie, Unre (2010).
