The father of her oldest daughter, Dominique, is different from the other two daughters who have the same father. All the three daughters of Wanda Miles are not yet married and do not have any children of their own. A typical day in their family’s household is that the mother prepares to work and sends off her children to school. They represent a mixture of both African and American cultures. There are no any male figures in the family as their household is primarily composed of female members.

Family Functioning Based on the information gathered from the interview, it could be observed that all the three daughters seemed to have a strong support system in the family given that the father of the two youngest daughters shows an equal treatment on them. Each of the family members, however, manifests similar attitudes and responses when they were further asked about themselves. Dominique's father is already deceased, but it could be observed that she is still severely affected when talking about her father’s death.

This has given her a strong emotional support from the treatment she gets in the family, especially to the father of the two daughters who treated her as though they were biologically-related. Similarly, Dominique’s sisters, Jasmine and Patricia, also received the same fair treatment from their biological father in spite of the fact that their parents are no longer together as a couple. Family Strengths and Problems The key strength of the family is that they maintain a close relationship with one another.

They also have ups and downs as any normal family would have. Although family conflicts could not be avoided sometimes, they still remain loving and resolve their issues together as a family. One problem that the family has is the aggressiveness of the mother. Given that Wanda is a single mother; her aggressiveness may be probably caused by the stress and pain that she has to go through in raising up her three children. In addition, the hardship of managing a household without any male figure that she can depend on in the family may be attributed to the cause of her aggressive behavior.

Another concern pointed out as a problem in their family was the issue of communication. At certain times, the daughters revealed how their mother would only favor one side of their family arguments over another. Assessment Measures From the background and different dynamics of the family’s daily life, it appears that some psychological and emotional aspects largely affect within the household of the family. This is mainly due to Wanda’s role in the family in that being a single mother has given her a severe amount of stress and difficulty in looking after the welfare of her children.

Her situation may have led her to become aggressive toward her children, especially when communication became a major issue or the cause of conflict within the family as she takes sides in resolving them. On a positive note, however, their constant love, support, and intimate relationship with one another may also have helped her in coping with their family’s circumstances, especially in times of difficulties and when conflicts need to be resolved.
