The main character is only five years of age and people would generally take the child as a mentally retarded soul which is simply not the case. However, within the long range scheme of things, Dibs has not been shown as mentally retarded but portrayed as quite intelligent yet withdrawn at the same time (Author Unknown, 2011). This book is indeed a classic example of cognitive psychology where it is facilitated by the techniques and the guiding philosophies which have been described through a simple yet clear manner.
The main verbal technique has been in the form of the reflective listening methodology which has been employed more and more during the book. Even though the outcome has been happier, the process that concerns itself with healing and development requires hard work and an emotionally demanding routine (Axline, 2011). An understanding of this book is indeed much needed by the social workers. The book depicts the crying of the child as well as the parents which are indeed something filled with grief and sorrow and suggests the sorry state of affairs.
The reader would feel aggrieved with the child and its parents during the understanding that is achieved of the book in essence. There is reason enough to believe that such a comprehension has been achieved when the reader gets the hang of the child and its parents. . The book is mostly filled with dialogues where there are also some amounts of descript and dialogue. It is a fact that the social work domains have made use of this book because it has spoken their language in a number of different ways.
In essence, it would be fair enough to suggest that the child has been the central character within the book and there is reason available to suggest the success that has come about in the wake of the social work mechanisms. The five-year-old steal the show hands down and this is something that is attributed directly on to the shoulders of the writer (Axline, 1986). One can easily learn a thing or two about personality development from the regimes of this book and understand the related nuances that come attached to it.
