While an acknowledgement of the current standard of knowledge workers has been defined, the effect that emotions have on this environment is still vastly underappreciated (Guy, Newman, &Mastracci, 2008). Theory/Theories or Conceptual Framework(s) Related to the Area of Inquiry 125 words The topic of this research study is based upon the concept of emotions in the work place. Because the concept of emotions is best studied through a qualitative study, both the grounded theory and the phenomenological approach to research will frame the conceptual framework for this inquiry.
The grounded theory will be used through a process of codifying concepts in order to form categories from which to create data. The phenomenology approach will be used to frame the experience in order to understand the meanings of emotions within the labor experience (Creswell, 2009). Purpose of Your Research 100 words The purpose of this research is to examine the experience of emotions as they are used to frame and inform decision making processes during labor situations. Through understanding this type of experience, the way in which labor is approached through emotional control or a lack of control that is found in the labor force can be utilized for the benefit of better understanding theories on the use of emotions in labor situations. . Through in-depth interviews and observations that are framed by specific criteria in a search for meaning and the development of an understanding of the phenomenon, the codification of commonalities and differences allows for a greater understanding of the incidents of emotional control within the labor experience (Creswell, 2009).

Your Proposed Research Population and How You Would Draw Upon this Population for your Research Inquiry: 100 words The best place in which to study emotions in the labor force would be within a social services organization. Emotions are a large part of the type of positions that social service workers must endur during their work day. This type of labor is defined as emotional labor (Guy, Newman, and Mastracci, 2008). Therefore, in order to understand the nature of emotions in the labor force, employing interviews with those in the social services will provide a rich and appropriate participant pool.
A participant pool of 35 members of local agencies will be used. Examples of Research Data That May Be Collected: 50 words The types of data that might be discovered through codification could be emotional control, lack of emotional control, mitigating factors, motivational factors, and triggers for loss of control. In-depth interviews will provide context for how those factors are presented and for what is being felt during the incidents. Social Change Implications: 100 words This study can provide for a better understanding of the phenomenon of emotions as they are used within the labor situation and the control or lack of control that occurs.
