There is no way of knowing exactly when this began but technology has produced porn since 8 mm tapes were available. According to Schwartz (2009) pornography is encompassed in every type of technology imaginable and this is one reason why it is so available to teens. Obviously teens are the ones who are affected by porn and the pornographers are the ones who benefits from this problem. 2. Prolonged use of the Internet can cause teens to change their behavior, become anxious and depressed and to act out in negative ways.

Many people turn to porn to stop feelings of anxiety, depression and/or stress (Saison, Smith, Robinson and Segal, 2010). For teens, prolonged use of porn can cause them to feel anxious, ashamed, depressed or fearful they will be caught. Haney (2006) states that teens who are addicted to porn begin to change their behavior which includes inappropriate sexual behavior and/or modeling, nightmares and harmful attitudes towards sex. These issues present themselves for teens and intervention is needed.

This issue is very harmful to teens and their families because the families must deal with their behavior and help them find intervention. The pornography sites will benefit from the problem as well as the court systems in a different way, because as teens act out they may become a part of the juvenile justice system. 3. The way the media portrays sex and the interactions between men and women can create extra pressure on teens to have sex. Haney (2006) suggests that this is true and that teens have a difficult time understanding the difference between what they see and what they will actually experience in real life.

Haney also states that because teens are naturally curious about sex, they are naturally curious about the porn sites that are available to them. Peck (2008) states that because of the glamour of the porn sites, teens are vulnerable to what they see. As one example, one young girl in Peck’s article had the dream of becoming a porn star. Some teens look at a few sites and develop a passive interest while others find they are addicted to it. Porn sites can create thoughts in teens that sex is about aggression rather than love (Peck, 2008).

Again, it is teens who are hurt by this problem because many of them get into trouble because of their behavior. Also, the pornographers are benefiting as porn makes $3 billion a year with 245 million web pages (in 2008) which has made many people go into it as a way to make money. 4. Teens are lured to porn sites through other sites that masquerade as other types of sites, and they are lured through chat rooms. These can cause a teen to spend more time on pornography than they do on their homework.

Haney (2006) states that many teens are lured onto porn sites through chat rooms and other types of sites. They may be doing their homework, think they are going to one site, and it turns out to be a porn site. Also, when chatting with some people, the teen may be sent sexually explicit material. Some adults who go to porn sites say that they have been approached by what they thought were men, but that there were boys saying they were over 18 when they were not. The challenge for teens is that that do not know how to deal with people coming to them and chatting about sex and pornography because they do not have this type of experience.

This causes children to lie to their parents so they again are the ones hurt, and the pornographers
