Literature review Based on the three articles, there are several signs of teenage rebellion and there exists also several causes of this rebellion. There have been several debates on the causes of teenage rebellion. Some psychologists maintain that teenage rebellion is caused by natural causes while others claim that it is as a result of the way that the teen is brought up and the kind of lifestyle that he or she is exposed to. This means that some people argue that teenage rebellion is completely uncontrollable while others maintain that the rebellion can be controlled by other factors.
Identity is the main blame for teenage rebellion. Most teenagers want to identify themselves to a certain way of life and by so doing result to rebellion. However some adolescents don’t understand themselves at all and as a result they appear to protest from everything so as to find their identity. In today’s world, teenage rebellion goes as far as the early 20s when some of the people fail to understand themselves and instead start rebelling against their seniors. It is of great interest to note that not all teenage rebellion is associated with rules violation. . However factors in the Goth culture are part of the societal norms.
Teenagers therefore try as much as they can to identify themselves by doing what they want to do and not what is expected from them by the societal norms and the Goth culture Discussion and conclusion According to one psychologist (Laurence 1993), the main reason why most teenagers engage in risky behaviours is because of the systems that stop within their brains. He further goes on and says that all the measures that are put in place to stop teenagers from engaging in risky behavior is very ineffective and rather a sign that shows them what they should do.
The main cause of risky behaviours in youths is the competitions that exist in their brains between cognitive control and socioemotional networks. It is during adolescence that the two networks undergo maturation in the brains of the young youths. However the maturation happens at different rates it is estimated that the sociaemotional networks develop at a faster rate as a compared to cognitive control networks. The sociaemotional networks are responsible for the kind of response that an individual has to their social and emotional surrounding.
The other network cognitive control has the ability to regulate a person’s control of dangerous situations. Since the sociaemotional networks develop faster than the cognitive control networks, and then it is this that causes the young adults to get more exposed to dangerous situations as compared to those who have both developed networks. Most psychologists argue that all teenagers have the ability to evaluate risks the same way that adults have. However it is hard for them to evaluate the vulnerability of such risks in their lives.
