Running head: EXPERIMENT REPORT ON OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIER Experiment report on operational amplifier Name Date University Task Abstract This experiment gives a basic practical summary of 741 op amps and an opportunity to familiarize with how operation amplifiers are used as inverting amplifiers, non-inverting amplifiers, and operation amplifier adding circuit. The amplifiers will be assembled and tested and the way they function will be explained. Its input voltage, output voltage, and the resistance will be measured and the measurements used to calculate the gain of the amplifier. Introduction Operations amplifiers are the basic building blocks of analogue electronic circuit. It is a device that contains all the properties required for ideal direct current amplification and they are extensively used in signal conditioning, filtering, and they have the capability to perform mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, integration, and differentiation. An ideal OP is essentially a three terminal device that contains two high impedance inputs, one inverting input marked with a negative (-) sign and the other is a non-inverting input marked with a positive sign (+). The amplified signal is an output signal that comes as a result of difference between the two signals that is applied at the two input terminals. Op have a very high open loop direct current gain and through applying certain form of negative feed back an Op circuit that has an exact gain characteristics that are dependent only on the feed back is produced. An Op responds only to the difference between the voltages on the two input terminals, which are normally called differential input voltage and not its common potential. If the same voltage potential is applied to both terminals of the Op, the resulting output voltage will be zero. The Op gain is normally called open loop differential gain and has been given a symbol (Ao). The operation amplifiers are considered to have the following characteristics; infinite gain in the open loop configuration; infinite input impedance, this ensures that the source is not affected by the amplifier and no current flows into the input terminals; zero output impedance, this ensures that the Op is not affected by the load and is capable of delivering any amount of current needed; zero response time, this ensures that the frequency response is absolutely flat and the bandwidth is infinite; and zero voltage and current offset, which ensures that when the input signal potential is zero, then the output signal will be also zero irrespective of the source of the resistance, at the same time when the voltages on the two inputs are similar there will be no output. In practice, the actual parameters of the Op amps are; Open loop gain 105-106 Input impedance Between inputs >105 Between input and ground > 108 Output impedance < 100 Ώ Frequency response Decreasing linearly with frequency Voltage offset Adjustable and < 5mV with adjustment Current offset Read More
