As a solution, therefore, the acceptability criteria were designed as a translation standard for the numerical estimates obtained during the assessment of risks. Through the criteria, the numerical estimates are changed into simpler value judgments, through which decision makers can be able to effectively evaluate the significance of a particular risk. Value judgments act as justification for a decision made by the decision maker.However, the society has accrued some benefits from the industry that include; job opportunities, increased revenue from taxes, and availability of petroleum products, fertilizers and pesticides.

The society plays the role of judging the acceptability of risk, it is, therefore, vital to see how they take a risk to be, and which criteria do they use to conclude that a risk is necessary. Generally, it is perceived that when people make judgments on the approval of a risk they base them on the expected benefits vis-à-vis the expected risk [Ref. 6] [Ref. 4] and [Ref. 3]. If the expected benefits offset the expected risks, then the risk is perceived as necessary and acceptable. Literally, the statement is, however, true because an advantage is always accompanied by a disadvantage.
