My View of Human Nature - Essay Example

Actions and decisions that people make, therefore aim at meeting their self-centered needs, and even though the actions and decisions may at times benefit other people, such benefits are secondary or maybe means to an end or secondary objectives. Maslow’s hierarchy of need theory, which associates motivation with people’s needs, informs my view of human nature. The theory identifies different levels of needs that expand to the macro social environment, but with the aim of meeting an individual’s needs. Self-actualization needs, for example, may lead to macro social achievement such as establishing and managing a social center for the benefit of needy members of society, but the key driver is an individual’s need for self-actualization (Griffin and Moorhead 86). My view on human desire is consistent with Hobbes’ view that factors such as fear and curiosity motivate humans. The view is however contrary to Locke’s view that some aspects of life are unattainable and people should stop striving towards them.
