Abortion: Harmful or Simple Procedure Introduction The main thesis of David Boonin revolves around the moral case against endorsement of abortion. The source could be termed as reliable because the author has integrated a variety of disciplines in the analysis of the issue at hand. Several variables have been incorporated in the analysis and evaluation of the phenomenon at hand. Boonin is a renowned philosopher. Abortion is one sensitive issue regardless of the culture and religion. In the entire world both in the developed world and in the developing world abortion is a sensitive issue. Of course, in any orthodox issue such as abortion, there are divisions among the people with some people supporting either sides of the issue. As Boonin (241) argued, the issue of abortion is a sensitive issue due to the fact that it affects the human life, those who argue against abortion are aware of the fact that abortion affects life and it is necessary to look at the ways in which the abortion affects life. However, there are issues in terms of whether life beings at conception or at birth. Those who argue that life begins at conception argue that abortion is killing of life since life begins at conception. The only way to clearly understand the issue of abortion is by looking at both sides of the issue. Those who argue against abortion say the following; The foetus is a human being and therefore must be treated as thus and that abortion is therefore killing of human a life. In this regard, a foetus is supposed to be treated as a human being. According to international law, all human beings are supposed to be treated with dignity and to be respected in order to maintain the human dignity. Failing to respect human life is even in one person is failing to respect human life ion all people. In this regard, killing a foetus which is a human being is the same as disrespecting the whole human race. The other issue to consider in regard to abortion is the fact that pregnancy is the responsible of the mother and the mother must be able to pay for the consequences of her actions. Although some people argue that abortion in cases of rape is necessary because the mother did not have a decision in terms of the action which led to the pregnancy, the fact remains that the child in the mother’s womb did not choose to be in the situation. As a result, the child does not deserve to die in any case. Abortion is a sensitive issue because of the fact that the foetus is a potential human being; however, it is necessary to note that abortion is the killing of a potential life which must be looked at in all ways in order to respect life. Failing to do so may mean that people don’t respect life and that they can kill any time. It is also necessary to know that women who go through the process of abortion also go through very difficult psychobiological issues. Although refraining from abortion will lead to the mother having to forego some important aspects of her life, it also prevents the woman from going through difficult psychological processes. Psychologists say that most women who go through the abortion processes have to go through very intense psychological issues. Some women who go through abortion always see the child they aborted throughout their life. In fact, some psychotherapists have identified that most women who go through abortion have to life with the process by reliving the anniversary of the abortion every year. While some proponents of abortion bring in some very powerful arguments for abortion, and argue that abortion processes would be provided as universal clinical services, it is necessary to consider the fact that if this was to be considered, most women would use this as a birth control (Boonin 158). In many countries, women who know that they will have easy access to abortion clinics fail to recognise other healthier uses of family planning. As a result, they resort to getting pregnant and aborting the foetus. This is not only unhealthy but also very immoral in accordance with many cultures. People should also understand that every individual is special in their own way. Every foetus is special and leads to special human being and must be treated as thus. In as much as some cases may make conception an inconvenience, it is necessary to know that every individual who conceived accidentally or in situations which are socially unacceptable, they can end up being very successful in life. Those who argue for abortion by saying that some circumstances of conception are questionable must understand this. The child must not be punished for the mistakes of another person. It is crucial to understands that the foetus does not have any control as to what the father and the mother do. In this regard, it is necessary to understand that the child must be protected at all costs and that the child is given the opportunity to participate in life. Although some people argue that the foetus is not a full hum being and hat life begins at birth, this in untrue due to the fact that a foetus, when left to its own means leads to the development of life. Regardless of how many scholars advocate for abortion, it is necessary to recognise that, man religion doesn’t support abortion (Boonin 258). Some of the major religions of the world such as Christianity and Islam fail to support abortion due to the fact that it fails to support life and the sanctity of life is seen in a very different way from the scientific world. While some scientists may argue that religion should and must not affect the way people life, the truth is that religion, just like culture is an important part of community life and affects the quality of life (Boonin 248). As a result, it is necessary to understand that most religions and culture don’t support abortion doe the fact that it undermines life in general. Abortion remains a major issue which must be considered in a very open m indeed way. There is no way that the issue will be resolved overnight and it is necessary for individuals to continually look at the issue. Regardless of religion and culture, people should think soberly about the issue. Work Cited: Boonin, David. A Defense of Abortion: Cambridge Studies in Philosophy and Public Policy.
