Art Comparison Artistic work has greatly evolved from the past decades to the present time. Some of the common aspects that cut across all the artists are that they get inspiration from the social life, political life and marketing of products. The driving force of art has not changed, but what has changed is the design of the artwork. For instance, if you compare old art and the modern art you will find that the modern art has brighter colors than the old art. The difference in color can tell us that modern artists are using these colors to enhance the message to be displayed.1 One is able to differentiate ancient arts from the modern ones by aspect of color. In this essay, it will feature more from the Museum of Modern art where the comparison between the works will be mainly based on the style, content, artistic intention and the historical context. When these aspects are explained, it gives one a deeper meaning of the work art work and you stop viewing it with a surface eye. This is because ever art work has a meaning and a source of inspiration. Art work has been used to communicate and it has more than a thousand words. It is a simpler way to communicate and it leaves a greater impact than writing so many words. It is much easier to remember an image of an art for many years than to remember a piece of written work. Though there are many types of art like singing, drama, poetry, and dancing, this essay will be focusing on painting and sculpture arts. Most of the paintings were done using oil because oil was resistant to water, it was readily found, was flexible enough to take different shapes and colors. Therefore, this paper look at the comparison between Lucky Strike by Stuart Davis and OOF by Edward Ruscha artistic works and Marilyn Monroe, I by James Rosenquist and Woman, I by Willem de Kooning in this essay. Lucky Strike versus OOF Luck Strike is a painting that was done by Stuart Davis. Stuart Davis was an American who was passionate about art. This art can tell that the artist was appreciating the tobacco company in America. It also shows that he loved the products from his own country.2 It was during 1921 that the tobacco the top most products in America that Stuart Davis came up with this art as a gift to the American Tobacco Company. OOF was done by Edward Ruscha in the year 1962 but he refined it in 1963. It was a gift of Agnes Gund. “I was interested in monosyllabic word sounds that seemed to have a certain comedic value to them”, Ruscha said. He was in a joyful mood when he was designing this art and he wanted to pass the mood of laughter to the targeted audience. By choosing OOF word, he wanted to be unique from the popular loud words that were being used by the pop artists.3 Size, color and composition Ruscha used heavy colored capital letters for OOF.4 The use of large capital letters shows that this is a loud word that is attached with a comedic value. He used a shade of yellow on the words and a deep blue color on the rest of the surface. These colors are highly attractive and one could easily note the words from a far. This was a marketing strategy that would help in attracting clients to buy the rat work. Stuart Davis used a mixture of graphics and words. The art is in a form of a house that symbolized the tobacco company. The art was specific and it was a gift to the Tobacco Company. The writings like ‘roll cut Tobacco’ were displayed in the artwork. He combined several colors like blue, white, gray, green, red, black and brown. It showed that the artist had a lot to say while the OOF art was simple with only two colors. The Lucy Strike art was more detailed than the OOF art. Both artists used the oil on canvas medium.5 The impacts of the chosen stylistic choices Canvas medium was mostly used because it was durable and hence it would last for many years. The art work was being passed from one generation to another to remember the ancient works. More so, nowadays it is a source of tourist attraction. The type of font that was chosen in OOF was simple and clear. The one in Luck Strike was more detailed because one had to take time and analyze the content on the art work. Both the artists had a social goal in mind and the gifts were to strengthen relationships among people and to appreciate others.6 Marilyn Monroe, I versus Woman, I Art Marilyn Munroe, I,was made by an American called James Rosenquist in the year 1962. His aim was to promote the Sidney and Harriet Janis Collection. The art feature one of the popular female artists known as Marilyn Monroe. The goal of the artist was social and he used the image of the prominent Marilyn as a selling point of this work. Any art work that had an image of the pop star gained a large number of the audience. The artist also used the coca cola logo to show that Marilyn was equally popular to the coca cola drinks in America. Woman, I, art was made by Willem de Kooning in 1950-1952. He was business oriented and he made this art for sale. He did a lot of the brush work on the painting between the two years. He was painting a woman using oil on canvas material. He received critics from the public because the woman he drew was bugged and not proportional. The art work is clumsy and it shows that the artists had not carried out enough research before he began his work. His views and ideas were scattered. It took him 2 years to complete the work, but the image was not appealing. If he could have composed himself, he could have come up with a better image for Woman, I.7 Size, color and composition The size of the woman done by James is proportional to the real image while the woman in the art by Kooning is gigantic. The colors used by James are blended and the use of the various graphics helped boost his intention. The color mixtures by Kooning were not the best Even though it showed a woman in the natural environment. He attracted more critics in this artwork.8 The impacts of the chosen stylistic choices James was able to pass his intentions more clearly than Kooning.
