Public Relations Interview Interview Cover Sheet Project: Week Five Relations Interview Details of the Interviewed Person: Thomas Russell Job Title: Facility Manager Organization: Mother Mary Nursing Home Why I chose the person: A facility manager will be able to give me a clear idea about the whole picture of the nursing home. He is the right person discussing with whom I will be able to know about what are things that this organization provides to the customers. The interview will take place on: September 23, 2008 Report of the Interview: Thomas Russell is the Facility Manager of Mother Mary Nursing Home in Boston. This nursing home exists in the scenario since the year 1987 and has earned great reputation for their dedication in the field. It was my intention to know how the facility manager works for the organization and what their future plans are. So I presented myself in Mr. Russell's chamber in the nursing home. He appeared to be an amicable man of perfection and he answered all my questions with patience. According to Mr. Russell, Mother Mary Nursing Home was very small as its former infrastructure is concerned. There were just 20 beds and 2 chambers for doctors. Today the whole scenario presents above 200 beds and 15 private chambers for the doctors. Like any other nursing home or hospital there are both outdoor and indoor facilities. People can come for personal check ups by the physicians who attend the outdoor section. On the other hand, there are also facilities for the patients who are directly admitted in the nursing home. As a Facility Manager, it is Mr. Russell's duty to look after whether the patients are getting all the facilities for which the authority has promised to them. He mentions some of the facilities that are unique in this nursing home and he further adds that these unique features have helped the nursing home to ensure its popularity. First of all there is an insurance facility every patient, which is very rare in the nursing homes. The patient can apply for the insurance with a certain amount of money that has to be deposited in the nursing home bank. This also helps the patients to get facilities in case they are admitted in future. Insurances are also helpful if someone from their families is admitted there. Mother Mary Nursing Home keeps all the tracks of the past records of the patients who are admitted here. These computerized records are very helpful to the doctors in case someone is admitted again in the future. Physicians can get all the details about the medical history of the patient and this helps in the process of diagnosis. There is free breakfast in every morning for the patients and tea and coffee for the visitors. The nursing home authority makes it a point so that no issue regarding the hygiene of the patient can be raised. The foods are healthy and applicable for all the patients no matter what disease they are suffering from. There are also special arrangements for the patients whose conditions are more critical than the others. All the patients are kept in separate rooms and there is no dormitory in the nursing home where privacy of the patients may get disturbed. Attendants are very regular in their job. All the rooms are cleaned up from time to time. Hygiene is in the culture of the nursing home and this is why patients are highly satisfied with the kind of services they are provided with in this organization. Politeness and cooperative nature of the attendants is focused so that the patients never feel lonely in this building. This homelike situation is the main thing which has brought success to Mother Mary Nursing Home. When asked about the financial expenditure of the nursing home Mr. Russell clearly said that they always try that services from this organization should be within the reach of the middle class people who arrive here for treatment. Of course some of the bills may seem to be expensive to them but when someone looks back to the kind of atmosphere and extra facilities which he/she had been provided with, the bills will look less than the actual amount that could have been charged. Customer satisfaction is the ultimate thing on which the authority of this organization has ever focused. To Mr. Russell, facility in a nursing does not only mean the facilities which are present for the treatment of the patients. There are must be some 'X' factor working along with it. Comforting a patient in the times of trouble is the main thing which can do the half of the treatment. The patient should never feel that he/she is spending the days somewhere in an unknown world where no one is there to take care. Business is not everything for Mother Mary Nursing Home. Helping people is the main idea as they are an establishment which deals with human health - the most precious wealth. Mother Mary Nursing Home has changed a lot according to Mr. Russell. All the manual systems have been replaced by the use of computers and this is why the system is very helpful during the time of any kind of emergency. Quickness in service and all time care for the patients are the main motto of this nursing home today. There is the facility for the patients to keep one attendant in the room throughout the night. This is very important for the patients who suffer from critical conditions and anything can happen to them any moment. Doctors are regular and they work in shifts. This means one can get their services throughout the 24 hours. In the final part of the interview Mr. Thomas Russell told me something about his own works and successful areas. He is the person in the organization who is respected for being extremely punctual. He has taken special care of the documentation process in the nursing home which keeps a track of all the stocks of medicine and foods that are present there. Russell takes care so that no scarcity of these items can fall upon the place. He says that a medical organization is associated with emergency matters and this is why they all have to be prepared for hard times. Runners and staffs are very helpful in this case. As a Facility Manager he also has regular talks with the financial department of the place so that no problem can arise on the ground of issuing money for any particular necessity. Another success of Mr. Russell is to introduce the entertainment facility for the patients. Today, there are television sets in all the separate patient rooms. Most of the major channels can be viewed lying on the beds. Of course, being inside a nursing home, no one is allowed to increase the TV volume. Apart from television there is also low channel music which remains on through the day and stopped at night. There are two special guest rooms for the visitors who come to see the patients admitted here. Guests can visit the patients with the help of the special guest cards which have to be issued by the authority itself. One guest card can give two people at a time to enter the patient's room. There is an enquiry room where any of the visitors can go any time to clear up his/her ideas about the facilities as well as formalities. The enquiry department remains open all throughout 24 hours. The nursing home also owns a separate building for the ICCU department where critical patients are kept. Visitors are not allowed in the ICCU rooms. Mother Mary Nursing Home's marketing department, according to Mr. Russell is very hard working. It is their hard work from which the authority of this nursing home has been able to come into ties among some of the major medical organizations in the United States of America. They have played significant roles in various advertising projects. Tying up with some of the biggest insurance companies has helped the organization to introduce newer schemes for the patients. As Mr. Russell put is rightly that he has never been the part of the marketing team, yet they have worked together as family members for the overall benefit of the organization. Today, with so many facilities present here, the corporation of Boston has also come forward to help them in some of the projects. These steps have brought further security and stability for Mother Mary Nursing Home as an organization. Read More
